upper abs and obliques; lower abs; and upper abs and obliques

hey anyone no if I should work my upper abs one day and my lower abs the next and upper the next day if I were to train 2 to three days in a row because I know it is possible to overtrain the abs and I have fallen into the overtraining thing before in many situations but if anyone reads this please reply back as soon as any of you guys can thanx

P.S. i have split it so i dont work too much with other body parts as well upper body one day(triceps, shoulders, upper abs, obliques, erector spine), (legs, lower abs) another, and the last day (biceps, back, forearms, upper abs, obliques, erector spine).

Evolution hit the nail on the head... you can't really isolate one part of your abs. I wouldn't worry about splitting them up. Frankly, the only thing people who do abs every time they work out have in common is that they HAVE NO SIXPACK! Ever watch the people who religiously go to those 45 minute abs classes day in and day out? None of them ever get abs. Frankly, even the idea of just working abs for a period of time is kind of silly to me. Its like going to a class for the tibialis anterior, or just biceps... Why do so many people think that only working abs will give a trainee a six pack? I guess the marketing efforts of all of those infomercial companies works, except that the models they use did NOT get their abs using their ab widget.

Want to know the truth about abs? If you train your full body with compound moves and you train with intensity you will work your abs much more effectively and they will grow. I can't tell you the last time I did a crunch. It's been years! Try doing a lat pull without contracting your abs.

BTW, as an aside, I'm not real crazy about your workout split either.

what do you mean by my split isnt good? should i give up on my abs is that what your saying? i certainly treat them like any other muscle group. wait so should i work them only on one day or should i (because i heard this many many other times) work them 2-3 times. also i forgot to mention that during a regular week I do the triceps shoulders chest abs and obliques on monday then i got karate tuesday and wensday, then I do my legs thursday and lower abs, friday i do back biceps abs and obliques, and saturday i do karate again. so far ive been seeing results cuz i get rest on sunday plus i eat 4-6 small meals a day

Read it. The guy is an idiot. The site is just trying to sell you a product. He said a couple of things right (like hitting your bench press, deadlilft, etc), but his ab stuff is way off base.

First and foremost, you have to get your nutrition in order. Stay away from fads... Especially supplement peddlers telling you that you can take their pill and eat whatever you want. Doesn't work that way or we would ALL have lean, ripped abs.

Second, isolating your obliques or internal obliques or rectus abdominus is impossible. If you're hungry for some exercises that will give you a blocky set of abs that will even show through a layer of fat, try some "windmills" or Saxon side bends, or side press, or leg raise pikes, or Janda Sit-ups. If you don't know these exercises, I will try to find links.

If it's martial arts you're looking at, then there's no reason to be working one bodypart a week. A much better alternative would be to work 3 fullbody workouts a week or an upper/lower body split. With consideration towards your MA workout, weights are beter with frequency.
