I have posted on here previously but wanted to give an update. I have now lost 90 pounds in 23 weeks from February - July 2012. I am doing mostly lap swim, walking, and some hiking for exercise. I have gone from nearly sedentary to exercising 2-2.5 hours per day. I am actually enjoying exercise now. I go for a walk for about 90 minutes in the morning and then do lap swim for about 55 minutes at night. I have increased my stamina and endruance. It's amazing how much more energy I have. I also am eating healthier using portion control and eating more fruits, vegetables, and whole grains. I keep a daily journal of a food journal with estimated calories for everything I eat along with my exercise journal with estimainted calories burned.

I still have a long way to go and I am losing at a slower pace but that's all right with as long as I stay on track and stay committed to living healthy. I stated at 405 pounds and I am now at 314.4 pounds. I am 37 years old, male, 6-0 height. Eventually, I want to get under 200 pounds which is where I was at about 12 years ago before I got married when the weight started to come back. It might take me another 6-12 months to no longer be obese but I know I can do it. Here is a weekly chart of my weight loss so far.

Hi legal!

Damn - that's so impressive! You say you're doing 2+ hours of exercise usually per day? Wow. I would suggest being careful with that. Don't run into something called overtraining (more info here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Overtraining)

I've run into that issue before in the past as I was so headstrong on reaching mini goals I set for myself. It eventually led to greater fatigue rather than increased energy, and I saw less and less results from my regimen even though I was kept increasing the duration and intensity.

You're doing great so far tho! Just make sure you're getting good rest and recovery!

Awesome before/after pics! I'm sure you'll reach your sub-200 goal in time, just take it slow and steady :)

Best of luck and keep us posted!

Great job.. you've worked hard and come a long way, and it really shows! Congratulations on your progress so far! :)

Thanks everyone for the comments.

I have slowly increased my exercise regime and I spread out my exercise. I exercise mostly in the morning from 6-7:30 am for walking and then go swimming at night from 8:30 - 9:30 pm so I have some rest in between exercise. I have been doing that for a few months now consistently and now I am just trying to increase my speed. With swimming, even though I am still obese, I feel like I am lot more fit than I used to be. I feel like my endurance is a lot better. For now, I don't think I am over-training since I am getting rest in between my exercise. If I did 2.5 straight of exercise, that would be more challenging. I have slowly worked up my exercise. When I first started, I was only walking about 20 minutes a day but I tried to slowly increase the time a few months and then added swimming starting at around 20 minutes a day. When I go in my annual physical, I also plan to talk to my doctor about my exercise regime but I think it's good for now. I feel great and have a lot more energy. I make sure to also stay hydrated.

Wow! Almost 3 years ago I was 38yo just under 400lbs. I needed to do something a decided on the slow and steady route and now down 85lbs.

Dude, you are on the fast track to your goals and crushing it. Great Job!

Holy moly! You've done a fantastic job and you look great. I'm glad that you have more energy and that you're increasing your exercise. You sound determined, realistic and very motivated. :beerchug:

My main motivation was that I just wanted to change my life. I woke up one day and decided I didn't have to be obese. I had lost weight before but then the weight came back on. As I have gotten older, I guess I wanted to focus more on living healthy. My grandfather died of a heart attack at age 47 (he was obese and a heavy smoker) and I didn't want that. One day, my little 5 year old boy told me "Dad, you're too fat" when we were playing hide and seek when he could find me easily. I am committed to living healthy and working hard. I am also relying on my faith in God as a motivation. I keep a narrative journal along with an Excel file I created that tracks my weight loss and another tab for my exercise and food consumption each day. Getting over 400 pounds is like a self inflicted disability. It was getting hard to get in and out of my car and do other normal things.

Update: I have now lost 96 pounds and am now at 309 pounds. I think lap swim and walking are good forms of exercise for me. I'm getting close to the 100 pound mark and getting my BMI under 40. Eventually, I want to get under 200 pounds. Swimming is also helping I think with loose skin and toning.

You have done such a great job so far, well done

Wow LegalWriter. You're really motivating me. Thank you. Keep posting your progress please. You're awesome!

Thanks everyone for your comments. I will keep you updated.

I am on vacation for two weeks and that will be a challenge but I am trying to maintain while on vacation. I view my weight loss goals as a lifestyle change for the rest of my life.

Update:

I have hit the 100 pound mark! I was on vacation for two weeks but I am now at 304 pounds after starting at 405 pounds. I have lost 101 pounds in 27 weeks. I still have a long journey ahead of me but losing 100 pounds to me is a big milestone. Thanks everyone for your words of encouragement.

Update:

After exercising today, I stepped on the scale and my weight registered at 299.8 pounds. I almost cried when I saw that I was under 300 pounds. For my weekly tracking, I use my weight when I first wake up in the morning on Fridays but having been over 405 pounds, I feel like it's a major milestone for me. I eventually plan to get under 200 pounds and I know it will take time but I'm getting there. I have started lifting weights and doing some weight training to go along with cardio with swimming and walking. I have now lost over 105 pounds or 25 percent of my body weight. I am about half-way to my goal of getting under 200 pounds.

Congratulations, legal!!! :hurray:

I remember that feeling myself, finally getting a '2' in front of my weight! It's a monumental accomplishment, and you deserve a round of applause! :hurray:

Keep up your momentum, trust the process, and never give up! You'll soon see yourself under 200 before you know it!
