Up your protein intake to 1.5 for pound and gain twice the muscle!

I was reading an article at Bodybuilding.com - The Future Of Bodybuilding! Huge Bodybuilding Site. about how they had a guy up his protein intake to 1.5 for pound. They said he gained twice as fast. He gained 30.4 pounds of muscle in 10 months. I understand they try and say all this about upping protein because there trying to sell products, but this sounds pretty legit. I'd try it. I think it's pretty cool. Here's the link.

Bodybuilding.com - David Young - Turbo Charge Your Metabolism With Extra Protein!

Read it all, it's pretty interesting.

Eating adequate protein will turn on your metabolic fat-burning "microchip".

fancy way of saying the increase in glucagon/insulin will put you lipolysis. i agree, the article is legit, i've done so much reading on protein and it's effects and i've seen so many people benefit from increasing their protein intake.

thanks for sharing

Protein is important for overall cell health among many other things including muscle growth
though one thing i must question is the gaining 30pounds of muscle in months? this isn't possible, even Arnold in his books claims 10 pounds of muscle in a whole YEAR would be a good gain
trust me if anyone gained 30pounds of muscle in months it is from steroids not protein

Nor do they even cite the study source...i highly doubt those where peer reviewed scientific studys hence why they do not cite the sources ;)

Silent no offense but you've always got something to say about something. Always gotta get the last word in. Maybe it works maybe it doesn't. All i know is that i've been eating 190 grams of protein and I weigh 130 (5'2) and i've been doing this high protein high calories and haven't lost or gained a pound but lost another belt notch. My bench goes up every week or so. So i'd say it works a lil bit bud.

Maybe your just lucky? When I bulked and did that all I did was get fatter.

You should read the "truth about bulking" article. Force-feeding your body and adding all that protein doesn't mean more muscle growth; there is eventually a limit to how much protein you can add without gaining fat.

S haven't lost or gained a pound but lost another belt notch..

I said you can not gain 30pounds of MUSCLE in 10 months. You are saying im wrong? Yet you say right there you haven't gained a pound.

The most famous body builder around as we all know him By Arnold in his book
"Body Building For Men" he states
"It is Difficult to increase muscle mass by more then 5pounds a YEAR" and "A really talented athlete might be able to build 10pounds of muscle mass a year , but that is a LOT"

good day

IF you want to get technical then TECHNICALLY i have gained weight. I've lost a waist size without losing a pound. ok, this meens i've lost fat.. but hey, i lost fat shouldn't i lose weight? wrong. I've gained muscle and lost fat. It's just taking the fat out. So technically I have gained weight. or else I would be at about 117 or so not 121

Oh and silent, take a guy who has NEVER lifted weights in his life. Give him a year to workout, i bet he could gain 30 pounds of muscle.
For Body builders its harder because they already have alot of muscle and increasing that even more is harder.

....if you go back and read my first post you will see i am not talking about you at all i was talking about the guy that claims to have gotten 30 pounds of muscle in 10months

This has nothing to do with you so why are you making about you...no offense....

but to answer your question

Yes you can gain some muscle weight quickly at first i am not saying you cant however it is much HARDER for an already very buff person to gain muscle mass

ironic but true

For instance take you and take a pro lifter with a perfect body building body

You could gain 5pounds of muscle much quicker then he could because he is reaching his bodys limits already...now understand?
good day

exactly.. that's exactly what I said.. it's harder for any already buff person to gain muscle. well its settled then

I'm not saying that an intake of 1.5x body weight doesn't improve gaining muscle mass, but Silent's point is correct because if you read again...

"A national-level bodybuilding competitor gained more muscle in 12 months than all previous five years....During the next year he upped his protein intake from 175 grams day to 300 to 400 grams each day. His results for a 365 day period were a gain of 30.5 pounds of muscle with a simultaneous reduction in bodyfat of 3.2 pounds."

By this I must make the assumption that he is not a beginner and will have a hard time gaining muscle mass.

I've a protein shake of calcium caseinate which involves 2 spoons in water. Would it help me to add in more for a while?
Thanks
Cian
