Under Serious Pressure, Need Advice

Alright, so here's the deal. About 8 months ago I decided that I was unsatisfied with my weight (5'9", 185 lbs). So, in an effort to lose, I decided to begin doing mild cardio.

In addition to cardio, I became a lacto-ovo vegetarian. I had done an extensive amount of research into the proper way to do this without endangering my health, and thought that monitoring my diet as a vegetarian would have an effect on my ability to monitor my health in general. I was correct.

Fast-forward 8 months. I now fluctuate between 132 and 136 lbs. However, because I didn't do any weight training during the past months, I'm basically skinny fat. I'm also borderline-obsessive about calorie counting, and I'm not 100% sure of my metabolic rate, so I end up underestimating my caloric intake.

This means that I've still been gradually losing, and, because I'm an almost-16 year old living with parents, they're absolutely ballistic. Basically, if I don't weigh in around 139 when I see a nutritionist July 15th, they'll be grounding me and sending me to a psychiatrist.

Trouble is, I'm deathly afraid of gaining fat back. So, I'm desperate to know if there's a way I can gain weight without gaining fat, but instead gaining lean muscle. Any nutrition tips, weightlifting regimens, etc. would be EXTREMELY HELPFUL. I have access to weights and can buy more if necessary, and a supposedly awesome machine will be arriving at my house on monday.

Thanks in advance!

Hey mate, im a 17 year old, and i was very much in the OPPOSITE boat to you last year!
I was extremely skinny, trying to gain weight, and found it real hard, but the help on this forum was amazing and.. with a little help from others ive put on a good bit of muscle!
Right so here we go... Im not particularly sure what is mean by a lacto-ovo-vegatarian, but obivously i presume that it means you wont eat meat? and by the lacto possibly milk or dairy products also? what about fish and eggs?

You really need to start getting protein down you! Protein shakes are the only way out i can see for you right now, unless you will eat eggs or fish in which case, those are great options (especially as eggs are known, as far as i believe, to boost testosterone production.. Minimally yes.. But still lol)! You need to be intaking more calories than you burn each day, to gain.. So you should be looking at a little formula which you can probably find on the internet to help give you a rough estimate on what your metabolic rate is! Then you need to be eating OVER this amount of calories a day, i would recommend about 400 - 500 over, as you dont want to gain massive amounts of weight!

Onto the exercise part... You need to be doing some weight obviously if you want to be gaining some weight fast, i would advise doing some big compound movements, obviously i expect you have a limited amount of weights at your disposal? what have you got exactly? Anyway basically you should be doing big movements with free weights (Dumb bells) e.g. bench press, military press, and if you have a barbell, squats and dead lifts! also the correct posture for these exercises is key to avoid injury! And from there on in, if you train with weights roughly 3 times a week, targeting big muscles groups, e.g. legs and chest.. You should gain those three pounds..
but i cant stress enough how important it is for you to eat! EAT EAT EAT until you gain that weight, then cut to the amount of calories you need to maintain your weight!

Right i hope i helped, im abit of a newby and need some correcting myself.. But hopefully this gave you a small insight into what you need to do!

I don't want to be the one to tell you this, and I hope it doesn't come across as negative but your "scared to death" of gaining any weight makes me wonder if you could use a psychiatrist. They are not there to tell you what to do or to label you, they are there to help you understand whats going on.

If your BMI requires you to gain weight to be healthy then maybe its something to consider. Few people want to gain weight but it shouldn't terrify you, if your struggling with that then a psychiatrist would be someone who could really help you with that. Please don't know out that as an option to try, it could really help you.
