UmmStarbucks Venti Iced White Mocha....

Ok, so starting this diary :hurray:
As you can see I'm a sucker for a Starbucks Venti Iced White Mocha... I drive in every day to work on my motorcycle for a 50 minute commute, and there just happens to be three of them on the path from parking to office. Then as you walk on by they wave at you, and usually before I can even pay, my precious is waiting... Ugghh.
But it's time to change as that 550+ calorie drink has got to go. (Heh, thats 35 minutes on the Eclipse!). But I need my caffeine, and the iced drinks helps releive the stress of all the people trying to run you off the road in the morning commute. So I was parusing the Starbucks web site and found a lower calorie alternative, the Iced doubleshot Expresso, only about 125 calories, and no calories from fat (And it has more caffeine..ehh I dont know if thats good or bad :) Dosent quite taste as yummy, but it will do.

Need to work on eating breakfast. I'll admint Im not a breakfast type of guy, but from what I've been reading it's the kick that starts everything in the morning (and I am not a morning guy at all). I think Im going to try to have a non-fat yougart before I leave in the morning.

Tuesday:
morning: stb icedexpresso 125 calories
lunch: mango diet shake (Mango is the yuck in a diet shake I found out) 265
dinner: cooked carrots (about 15 little ones) 80 calories?
two chicken breasts (breaded, I know bad) 800
asian pear (big) 110
pasta noodles in garlic 230
Tuesday total: 1610 (I think thats ok with my size and the workout)

Till tomorrow then!

edit. ok so im wide awake and it's almost 2:00am.. sigh...

I don’t want to discourage you, so if that’s how it comes across, please just bear with me, I am just trying to give a couple tips from one hoping-to-lose-weight to another. Who knows, they might even help so you aren’t awake at 2am and thinking about food ;)

First up I am going to give you a mild scolding for not eating more for breakfast. You need to put a little more fuel in the engine. Maybe you could combine your iced espresso drink with some fruit or half a bagel or something. But 125 calories really is a very small start to the day and you haven’t eaten all night. This is tough, I am not usually a morning/breakfast person either, but I find eating a slightly bigger meal in the mornings (250-350 cals) actually makes me feel a little more energetic through the day.

Second, your dinner was a large chunk of your calories – about half of your daily intake in one meal and probably not the best idea. You want to spread your calories around as much as possible throughout the day. Maybe you could eat half of your dinner during the evening, follow it with a snack (I would suggest fruit, but I have a bad, bad sweet tooth), then the next day you could have your leftover dinner for lunch. That way you get a good portion of calories that tastes good at lunchtime and you aren’t quite as hungry when dinner time arrives.

As for how many calories your eating a day plus your workout, I am not sure as I don’t see your stats in the thread and I haven’t read them elsewhere. Have you gone through the sticky-threads and done the calorie calculations, BMR, etc? They are very useful when figuring out how much you need to cut to lose weight. Remember, cutting your calories too much can give you the results at first, but essentially it slows down your metabolism and the weight just climbs back on.

Best of luck to you! I am bookmarking your diary so I can check up on your progress :)

Ugh, I'm with ya on the mornings thing. I never get hungry until 10am or so, and if I eat breakfast then it hurts my stomach, or I end up famished all day long. I do best with a little yogurt, which I know isn't enough, but I am eating a good lunch then tapering off as the day wanes. I'm trying to listen to my body and not my emotions. If I listened to my emotions I'd binge and drink.

Anyhoo keep up the good work! Try not to get too buzzed on that caffeine!

Colleen

Not discourging at all BrownEyedGirl. Your totally right, I need to eat more in the morning, and reduce the dinner, and beef up the lunch a bit. I just have a really hard time eating in the morning. I'd like to get to a point were Im eating little mini meals all day instead of big meals, but I know thats not too realistic being that everyone else in the house is not trying to lose anything. I'm going to try tomorrow to start off with a yougart, bananna, and the expresso, to see how that goes.
I havent gone through the sticky threads yet, but will do that now.
I'm the same as you Colleen, if I eat before 10 I sometimes get stomach pains as well, or I start snacking all day long. so the breakfast will be more of a challenge than I planned it to be. And I hear ya on the emtions, if I were to let loose of all the bottled up feelings, I think I'd probally empty out a few bars as well. That or Id grab a box of Cheese-it's and before I knew it I'd be finishing the box. Then beating up on myself right after. It's a vicious cycle.

Today was a hectic day, and I'll admit I ate poorly today, not in too much calories, but in the fact that I didnt eat anything really all day and had almost all of my calories at dinner. I need to plan better for the morning and not get so cought up in work and meetings.

Morning: 12 glass of iced coffee with creamer (probally around 150 calories)
Lunch: trail bar (225 calories)
Dinner: Pasta with red sauce and chicken, and zucanni (Spelled wrong probally I know :) 1050 calories or so based on the size
After dinner: small slice of very yummy white cake with pudding frosting 300
Total today:1725 (Which is too low for me based on my size and weight).

Workout: 40 minutes on the Cardio cross-trainer (-620 calories)
300 crunches (on the crunch table which I think is easier then just on the floor), and multipe sets of presses , and curls.

Im going to go figure out my stats right now.

Profile:
Q: What is your current height and weight?
6’3” and 304lbs

Q: If you were at an ideal weight now, what would that weight be?
210lbs.

Q: At what weight would you like to be at four months from now?
260lbs- 250lbs

Q: Why do you want to lose weight?
Get my self confidance back. Extend my life, and start feeling good about myslef

Q: Do you want to lose weight for a specific life event such as wedding or reunion? If so, when is that event?
Just for life in general

Q:What obstacles could get between you and your weight loss goals?
Work, motivation on my side, not much support at home

Q: Why do you think that you now have a weight problem?
Humm, a couple of things. On my mom's side the whole famile is heavy (I dont know my dad's side). Also, I had Leukhemia back in 95 in which I gained 70 lbs in 3 months and I've never been able to get it back off long term.

Q: What lifestyle changes do you think would help you lose weight?
Getting some exercise is #1, my job is in front of a computer all day, and that kills the body. Changing mu eating patterns to eat more in the morning and lunch and less at night.

Q: Have you lost weight in the past? If so, what has worked in the past to help you lose weight?
Yes, going to the gym with a trainer helped, but then I started traveling for work and got off track

Q: Why do you believe that you did not lose weight or you gained the weight back?
I got off track with life and personal issues and let them take control

Q: What, if anything, has not worked for you in the past in helping you to lose weight? Why do you think it did not work?
Trying to eat only the "healthy choice" size meals. I would be starving and then go out and binge eat.

Q: Would you try writing down all food and drink consumed for a given period of time?
Doing that now :)

Q: Do you cook at home often? If so, what do you cook?
No, I get home late and basically eat whatever the rest of the fam has.

Q: How often do you go out to eat? Where do you go?
Probally 2-3 times a month. Chevys or Applebees

Q: What are your three favorite foods?
CheesBurgers
It's-it (It's an ice cream treat)
Meatloaf

Q: What are your three favorite restaurants?
AppleBees
Chevys
Jenny-Lowes (Chinese place)

Q: What are three things you can do differently when it comes to food?
I have to eat less
Eat more constintaly throught the day
reduce the sweets (Thats really hard, my sweet tooth has been known to take control)

Q: If you woke up tomorrow and your body was exactly the way you want it, what would be different?
I would be taking the day off of work to go buy some decent style clothes :)
My self-confidence would rise, and I'd be less shy around people.

Q: Do you eat when you are not hungry?
Sometimes when Im depressed

Q: Do you binge eat (large amounts at a time)?
Yes, if I havent eaten anything all day I can get home and just plow through the food.

Q: Do you hide your food or eat in secret?
no, we'll I guess I've bought candy and eaten it in provate, or chowed it down before I got home.

Q: Do you eat when you are sad, nervous, or depressed?
Yep

Q: Do you eat as a reward?
Yep

Q: Do you eat while watching TV or using the computer?
Yes, both.

Q: In terms of exercise, what, if anything, are you currently doing?
Have started going to the gym on a daily basis

Q: Where do you go for exercise? A local public gym? School/work gym? Home?
Gym, which actually sucks as I feel that I get judged quite a bit there, as it's full of super-fit "professionals" as I work in the financial district of SF.

Q: What, if anything, are your three favorite types of exercise?
cross-trainer -cardio (I used to love to run, though it would kill my knees right now)
crunches (For some reason I can do way more of these then should be possiable even at my weight)
curls (I like the feeling you get after your done, like your all pumped -up and ready to Terminate...)

Q: What is your daily/weekly/monthly/yearly motivation to move towards your goals?
I need to improve my life for me and not for others, and thats wht I need to remember on a daily\weekly\monthly basis

Q: Do you have rewards for certain goals?
When I lose the first 50 I'm getting a Corvette and hitting the open road with a full-fledged mid-life crisis... :)
No, really just feeling better is all the reward I need. ... Though the corvette is not sounding too bad............

Body stats:
BMI = 38.10 :(

Day 4 complete :)

Tried to eat a little breakfast today. Did ok, but still need to work on balance throught the day, and not just at night.

Breakfast:
1 yougart (lowfat) 100 calories
1 small peice of chicken (nugget size) 40 calories
cup of coffee with creamer (French Vanalla) 130
Breakfast total: 270

Lunch: (Didn't do well here, as I didn't have time for lunch)
Went to the gym and did 30 minutes cardio, and 30 doing "Lifting" activities
Had a granola trail mix bar 230
one bananna 105 calories

Dinner:
three strips of chicked (Breaded, I know I know) 220 each
Bowl of salad with lettace, tomatoes, rasians, cheese, and a teaspoon of Thousand Island: 520
1 strip of turkey bacon (added to above salad) 61
Total dinner: 1241

Night snack: 1 lowfat yougart: 100 calories

So all in all Im just over 1800, but I did grab two strips of chicked for tomorrows lunch, so that should help me be more even tomorrow.

So what the hell is wrong with co-workers who like to temp you with food when they know your on a diet.. LOL, one of my co-workers brought in fresh homemade cookies, (Which smelled incrediable btw), and one of my other co-workers was eating them and "loudly" commenting on the taste and blowing the aroma over to me). I know he was just kidding as we get along really well, but its still annoying. At least I made $5.00 off of hiim betting that I couldn't hold out all day on eating just one.

I think the weekend will be my tough test, as I tend to eat more when Im at home, and boared. Must keep busy.....

For the record, there are a few of us who dont eat much in the mornings. If you are more of an evening muncher or eat when tired like a lot of us 100-200 is perfectly fine in the mornings, in fact caffiene stimulates you into kicking into gear so has similar effect as breakfast.
My main consession also is cutting back on the mocha which i love. Now i make my own before i leave the house so i can make sure its trim milk, low cal choc and excellent beans.
It usually works out to be a normal cup sized mocha, and about 100-150 calories.
Half a cup of trim milk (50cals) to make 1 cup froth, plus 30cals on chocolate, plus a coffee seed (marshmellow) or two.
Cafes always use syrups, sugar, full cream milks, etc which really drives up the calories unnessarily. Took me a few goes to find a low calorie tasty alternative but it was worth it!

I'm the exact opposite on the breakfast deal....I absolutely love breakfast (well, all meals really). I really have to work out what I'm going to eat for breakfast so I don't overdo it there.

Have you tried different brands of breakfast bars....I really like the Zone bar....I am on the go during the school year and don't have time to sit and eat a real breakfast and that will usually get me off to a good start....210 calories, which seems like a lot for one bar, but it's not bad when you consider it's replaced what should be a whole meal. Plus it has 3g of fiber and it actually tastes good.....I have the choc. peanut butter YUM.

As for the workplace food bullies.......I hear ya! I'm a teacher...any idea how good teachers are at cooking!! And 99% of them only cook comfort food...I bet teachers are the in the top five heaviest professions.

Anyway....good luck with your diet!

I follow "Skinny bitch" for my breakfast and only eat fruit, I have had criticism for this, but I have lost more than half of what I wanted to lose and feel more comfortable eating this way, so for me this is the way to go. This means some mornings I only get 100 cals in, some mornings I get 200 in... overall calories in and out is what really counts!

Also little tip: the tall caramel light frap is only 135 calories if you have it without whipped cream! That is fine to have as a drink! I love me my starbucks as well!
Have a great weekend, Camy

Yeah I agree, Camy. I think this is a work in progress and when we find something that works (and is healthy) we should stick to that. A large breakfast is fuel to some people, while for me I get groggy and bloated and am far less productive. Now like Snoopy, when my stomach clock goes off it rings loud, so I try not to skip breakfast entirely, though in the past I would, just cause I anticipated a huge lunch. Now I'm just trying to be calm about it all, not get overwhelmed with do's and don'ts and take one thing at a time. I'm eating far less than I was, and not going hungry. I'm drinking less, way less. Next comes exercise. Eeesh. I know once I get into it I will love it, but for now . . . uuuuuugh.

Colleen (insomniac)

Woohoo made it through the first 5 days. So far so good as it looks like Im down about 4 lbs (Which is probally all water, but still good) :)

Im with you guys on breakfast, eating big is just not for me, and I think just having a yougart and a "tall Carmel lite frap (Thanks for the tip Camy)" will do me just fine. I had yougart and a cup of coffee for breakfast, then at lunch I had a fruit bowl, small container of cottege cheese, and an apple muffin (I call it a muffin, but it was really a rock, as I didn't notice the Vegan label when I bought it). Dinner was a Chicken Fiata Pita, small fries, and a diet coke. I know the fries, but even with them I'm still with in my calorie goal so all is good. So far it's been going pretty good.
As I'm super sore, I just did all cardio today as I needed a break from the weights.

I'm hoping to get some good sleep tonight, last night's was broken by a call from our noc about some db issues. Turns out one of our contractors decided to run a upgrade process on our production box rather then the virtual one I gave him. :banghead:

I get the house all to myself this weekend with the family being on a weekend getaway (Im on call all weekend) so time to crank up the tunes and rock out :)

Hey I just wanted to thank you all for all the great support. I've been pretty blown away with everyone so far. Everyone seems to really care, are real, and are so helpful. You guys are great!
Thanks!!!!!!!!!

Ok, so some good news bad news for today.
Bad news, is that my scale at home was actually broken, and my startup weight was not 305. Thats just what the scale stops at :(
In the gym on two different scales I came in at 313 today. So that sucks :banghead:

But the good news! Is that I know where Im at now for sure. I've bought a new scale, and after seeing Wishes fantastic bike pictures, I realized how much I miss riding my bike, so I bought a new one :)
Went for a hour long ride and realized just how much I've gained over the years. I used to ride 2 hours at least pretty much every day way back in the day. I feel really awkard now riding and my wrists hurt a bit from the weight I have on the handlebars. Some seat adjustments helped that a bit, and I bought some padded riding gloves to help, so that should be ok. But i had a good time riding it. I didnt realize how expensive bikes have become as I got a "cheaper" model and it was still almost 600.00! But I figure if I just at least start riding it to the gym (Which I did tonight as well) it's worth it.

Food wise, I sort of cheated, but was still within my goal, just ate some rather yummy byt not as healthy food.
My son and I had breakfast\lunch which consisted of a begal, three deli slices of turkey, 6 strips of bacon, chedder cheese, and bbq sauce. It was really good but Im sure it wasnt the healty choice. Dinner was light though, four turkey slices, a yougart, half a cup or so of chips, and a cup of fruit.

I really wasnt all that hungry. But then I went to the gym for about an hour and forty-five minutes. I was the only one there (It has a thumb scanner that unlocks the door after 8:00pm so it's open 24x7) and I just sort of got into a zone. It felt really good. But when I got home, I was starving. I had a yougart, 2 slices of deli ham, a cup of potatoe chips, cup of Cheese-its, and a half cup of apple sauce, all within 2-3 minutes. I felt a bit bad afterwords, but I was really hungry. I did manage to drink about 2 litres of water before, during , and after the gym, so thats pretty good.
I think I did ok today reguardless of the eating again after the gym.

Hello I was totally intrigued by the name of your diary! I am a huge starbucks fan aswell, but I have cut back and treat myself a few times a month!

You are doing really well! I'm sorry to hear about the situation between you and your wife, you might look into something to help with the snoring, I know there are lots of ways to help prevent it... maybe google it! And also maybe get your wife on board with you... Its great to talk about your goals and why you have these goals with your partner, opens up a whole other level of the relationship... or at least in my experience it has!

Keep your chin up! You are doing great!! I look forward to seeing your progress!!

Cheers,
MissDFITT

Thank MissDFITT!
Yea, when I opened the journal, I was thinking of the one thing that I used to have everyday that Im really going to miss. And that was it. Camy pointed out the tall Carmel Lite frap is only 135 calories, so Im going to try that tomorrow.

So what do you guys do when your on a road trip and you stop for drinks aalonf the way. I was looking for some thing healthy at the Chevron Quick Mart, and I couldn't find anything healthy to snack on. Everything was candy, cakes, chips, etc. I setteled on a small bag of trail mix, as I was in a strange mood for peanut butter. It was funny I was craving it and I'm not normally a huge PB fan. Had a grilled chicked salad at BK for lunch, and a water. For dinner I went a little over and had chicken nuggets and sheesy pasta. (That meal was probally around 1400 calories). So to make up for it I wne to the gym (Good thing it's literally just around the corner) and did 40 minutes of cardio and 30 of the circuit training. I had a Dannon Light and Fit yougart when I got home for another 60 calories.

I'm feeling pretty good now that I've got the first full week behind me. Hopefully I can stay motivated and keep it going.

I adore breakfast foods but I rarely eat the stereotypical American breakfast (eggs, sausage or bacon, hashbrowns, etc) because of how unhealthy it is and how much time it takes to prepare.

I usually eat Raisin Bran with 1 or 2% milk but I haven't been measuring the portions. Starting tomorrow, I will. On weekends I rarely eat breakfast but I'll have lunch an hour earlier than normal.

When I go to Starbucks I have the tall skinny latte (still a whopping 122 calories) or diluted coffee with skim milk. Starbucks' coffee is very acidic and lots of people my size have problems with reflux and indigestion...so I can't drink it black. I used to have the full fat vanilla latte with half syrup; the regular amount of syrup was always too much.

You might check out the beef jerkey selction... see if you can find one that low in sodium... that will at least give you a little protein. Or you could always pre-pack snacks for the road.

Happy Monday!

yea, I looked at the Jerkey, and almost all if it was so high in calories it was crazy. Pre-packing is the way to go, I just have to remember to do it. So Moday is over. Breakfast and lunch went well, went to the gym about 30 minutes after lunch so that was good. Dinner on the other hand was bad. Chinese food was in the house. Even though everything was fresh, and we had all white meat chicken it was still way over the caloric budget. I felt so crappy after that I went to the gym again for an hour of cardio. I figure I hopefully burned off at least half of it to not blow the whole day. LOL, it's going to be a long 51 weeks till my goal. But I'll get there!
