Ultimate Goal - 200lbs. Need help

Hey guys,

I'm only 17, and weight 330lbs. I really need help with weight loss. The biggest thing for me is food - I absolutely love it! It's okay for you to say just give it up, but I'm sure there are people here who know, it isn't easy. For example I go into the Supermarket saying to myself "NO I am NOT going to buy that bag of cookies" But 15 minutes later I'm walking out the door with them.

I also need some help with exercise. I've started doing 10 minutes a day walking on the treadmill, but that can't be doing anything? I've often thought about power walking while watching some TV (So I still get in my TV fix but it ain't on the couch!)

All I really need is some advice/encouragement. My optimum weight goal is 200lbs, so I have 130 to loose!

Any help is really appreciated :)
Thanks!

Off to a good start!

The walking on the treadmill is a very good start. There is no such thing as worthless exercise.

Your goal for weight loss is to basicly "spend" as many calories as possible while regulating (notice I didn't say limit or greatly restrict) your calorie intake.

As far as the cookies, I usualy like to suck on a candy or a lolli-pop when I go grocery shopping. It helps keep my sweets cravings down.

I made a mini video E-course on how to make weight loss a bit easier. It might be a good start as well.

You can check out the first vid here:

I know 130 pounds feels like a big mountain to climb but I fully beleive you can do it. I know you can!

Welcome aboard, TopCat. Doing any additional exercise helps. My best advice (since I'm still very much a novice) would be to read the stickies here.

And then reread them.

Those videos are actually interesting, Rebel. (I'm on the 5th right now: do the activities you like; find something you like and do it. Simple, but brilliant and something I honestly have completely overlooked!)

LTC,

I understand man... Fatty Food is good to eat, makes you feel good while you eat it, provides comfort and is a habit that we know... I could literally eat eat and eat

I am far from a weight loss wizard as I am a 300 LB guy who has only been eating right for a week... but I have lost weight before..

What did it for me... is a simple shift of personal priorities... When I get food cravings, when I feel weak... I simply remember... "being healthy and my personal goals are more important to me than eating that..."

Once you decide in your heart what you want to do, make a decision. After awhile you will see you can balance your diet and still have that good stuff, just not as much... as your stomach grows a little smaller and you break some habits it will get easier.

Exercise is important for a number of reasons, start slow, make small goals... 10 minutes on treadmill one week.. maybe 12 minutes next week or 1/2 mile an hour faster...

If you feel overwhelmed by a goal (like I do some time) break it up to weekly or even daily... dont think "I have 130 lbs to lose"... think " I have 3 lbs to lose this week"

Dont be negative about weightloss either, it should be thought of as "life gain". Just remember you have the best healthy life style to gain.. losing weight is a side effect of the lifestyle and happiness it will bring you...

These are all just things I have been thinking about that help me...
Good luck to you, check in often

Hey,

I'm going to start off by saying, to me, it's an amazing step that you've realized you want to lose weight and are actively willing to try and lose it. I know there have been periods in my life where I've wanted to lose weight, but haven't done anything about it. So kudos! :)

What helps me with food cravings is slowly replacing the junk food that you love to eat with healthy food that does, after a while, start to taste as good. So, for example, instead of going into the kitchen to grab and chow down a bag of chips I've tried to train myself to reach for a melon instead. My goal is to try to learn to crave healthy foods just as much as I've craved things like McDonald's in the past. If you know you're going to forget about any goals and listen to your cravings the second you walk into the kitchen, try putting sticky notes on your junk food that say things like "Why not try a piece of fruit instead?" I know it sounds cheesy, but it has helped me in the past.

Another tip that I can give you, which has helped me immensely in the past, is finding someone to motivate you. For me this person has always been my sister, who I can confide everything to, and I find that if she's in on my weight loss goals she can always be there to motivate me to exercise or eat properly. Also, if you're having a bad day or cave and eat the wrong kind of food, it's always nice to be able to talk about it with someone else and have them help motivate you to get back on track.

Motivation and, like Big Guy said, smaller goals (daily/weekly goals) are key ingredients to a healthy and successful weight loss plan and life!

(BTW: Just want to add that I am not an expert in this and any advice I give is strictly from my own personal experience)

Good luck,

Megan
