Tummy Plz Help

I was on a weight gain programme.i currently weigh 76kgs,Intially when i first started working out my trainer advised me not to work on abs and it was ok if my tummy comes out a bit.The problem i now face is that my entire body seems to be in shape including my chest and arms but my tummy is becoming huge.i am currently working on abs but i dont see any change.i need advice to get that tummy in and simultaneously need to gain weight too.any suggestions plz help.

I'm not sure why your trainer would tell you not to work abs? Working a specific muscle group has nothing to do with the fat that covers that muscle group. Working abs will not prevent you from gaining fat on top of your abs or help that fat disapear.

Are you on a muscle building program? You definately should be working all your muscle groups, but doing abs is not going to make you lose any tummy fat. When you're doing building muscle I assume you'll go on a fat loss program? At that time you will lose tummy fat through diet and workout combination.

I hope that helps.

Advice

HI Glen, I can make a suggestion to you. Your diet needs some serious revamping if it contains lots of cheese, butter, milk and rice. If you are on a muscle gain program, I would think that you should up your protein intake a bit. Egg whites, cottage cheese, lean meats, fish are some examples of quality protein. Also you should be eating fruits and vegetables, plenty of them. Try eating 5-6 smaller healthy meals a day. Also drink lots of water. LOTS. That is just a rough idea of some things you can do to improve your diet. I know others on this board can add more detail. Good luck.

thanks buddy for ur valuable post.Ok i guess i shall follow the routein u specified.Talkin about proteins what about whey protein. Can it substitute cottage cheese, fish, egg white etc.

I can make some basic recommendations to you that I would make for anyone mass building. As for specifics, those are different for everyone as everyone has different needs.

Lower fat diet, with loads of lean proteins and complex carbs. Whey is excellent to have after a workout with a carb. Any lean meats are great. I love my 96% lean ground beef when mass building.

Hope that helps.

You can substitute a whey protein shake for food proteins. BUT I recommend that you still get most of your proteins from "real" food. I wouldn't depend 100% on getting your daily protein intake just from Whey. You really should get most of your protein from foods mentioned in the other post, for example. Of course there are other foods which contain protein. If you want to substitute a whey shake or maybe two a day, I think that is fine, but definitely eat foods for the majority of your protein. JMO.

Hi Glen.

You do want to work your abs in conjunction with the rest of your workout however, as mentioned before, working abs is not going to cause you to lose the fat around your stomach. The ONLY way to lose that fat is through cardio. Diet is good to help prevent further addition of fat on your midsection however the fat cells around your midsection are activated only through exercise. Try to bump up your cardio to burn the extra calories.

Regarding your abdominals. If you are doing any crunches with weights or a lot of crunches in general your abdominals will start to protrude. Make sure you are training your transverse abdominals which function to pull the stomach back in. The plank is a very effective exercise for this and can be done in a variety of ways to challenge your core.

Good luck!
