I made a diary a while ago but I never took the initiative and followed through with with my diet/exercise plan.

Now, I'm back and determined to lose all this extra weight I've put on! The first thing I guess you should know is how I ended up gaining 50+ pounds. Well, I have severe hearing loss in both ears, and I've been wearing hearing aids since I was little, so my family and I talked to the Doctor and decided it was time to get a Cochlear Implant. When I had the surgery I weighed around 180 and now I'm at 220. I was on pain medicine, my eating habits were really bad due to me eating constantly and eating of the night time. I was also really inactive. Now, I'm doing extremely well with my Cochlear, and I decided it's time to lose this extra weight!

I've always sort of been the "chubby" one growing up. I enjoy sweets too much and I love drinking coke. I was happy when I was around 180, I wasn't perfectly slim, but I was comfortable. Now that I've gained a considerable amount of weight due to my surgery and lack of activity I'm starting to feel the side affects. I'm out of breath going up and down stairs and my clothes aren't fitting right anymore. I don't feel good in my own skin, even with makeup I still feel unattractive and I just want a change. So let's start this journey!

I'm a female, I'm 5'6 and I plan on keeping my calories under 1,500.

As far as exercise I'm thinking about buying a work out DVD so I can workout at home. In the mean time I'm doing exercises that I find on google, I'm walking in place, jumping on my trampoline, ect.

My goal weight is to get around the 150s and see how I feel, and see if I want to lose more or just tone up from there.

Wheeeew! I'm ready to start melting the fat off. :D

Sounds like a you have ya good start, maybe you could substitute cardio DVDs with walking/jogging an hour each day?? Also you can find a lot of workout videos on YouTube.

Good luck with starting your new life.

Yeah, I was thinking about doing some walking and/or jogging. Except there isn't really a good place to do that where I live unless I go to the park and we don't have a treadmill. Maybe I could do intense jogging/running in place for so many minutes at a time then slow the pace down and pick it back up?

Thanks! I was reading your diary also and now I'm off to leave you a comment. :)

Today's meal:

Slice of white american cheese / 120
Cheetos / 150
Two cups of whole grain pasta with vinaigrette / 600
Two cups of grapes / 104

My calories for today should be around 950/1000. I may eat some more fruit.

I haven't worked out yet.

It doesn't really matter what you do, just as long as you like doing it and it keeps your heart rate up, it will help you lose weight.

I just finished doing a 25-30 minute workout session. Did some sit ups, leg lifts, a bit of weight lifting, and walked in place bringing my knees up to touch the palm of my hands. I definitely feel sore and my heart was up pretty good. Hopefully that's alright for a starter.

MLB: Thanks for the tip! I'll try to make sure my workouts keep my heart pumping good.

Hey, I hear you on the soda. I actually have a count in my signature for how many days I've gone without.

Sounds like you're doing well with the exercise! :D

Hello T, Welcome (back) to the forum and congratulations for starting the journey to a healthier (and happier) life. :grouphug:

I think that trying to reduce the soda and the bread would be a good place to start.

You may also want to weigh your food instead of using cups to measure it; I suggest you take a look at this thread: http://weight-loss.fitness.com/threads/16780-Easiest-Fat-Loss-Tip-Ever (I would post the link directly to the video inside that thread, but I'm not the one who found it, and not the one to take the credit)

I agree with MLB, you can always start by walking. If you don't want to go outside, there are plenty of free routines you can follow on Youtube. I always suggest starting with low impact exercise tho the people who haven't been exercising regularly lately or that weights too much that other exercises may cause lesions. (my case) :blush5:

In case you want something a bit more exigent, I suggest trying a kick boxing routine.

Remember to don't push yourself too hard with exercise if you are just starting, and don't get stressed or sad if you have to take a rest day.

Good luck. :)

Cory: Thanks! Soda is one of my biggest weaknesses! I was used to drinking several cups of regular coke a day and I pretty much cut cold turkey so we'll see how it goes! Lol

Athala: I'll have to look into that although I probably won't be able to buy a food scale anytime soon. I enjoy walking and I enjoy being outside, there are just limits on how far I can walk outside due to where I live. I have a trampoline in my backyard and when I jump consistently on it for around 25 minutes I work up a really good sweat. I'll have to try find a way to incorporate some walking into my workouts. Thanks for stopping by, I appreciate it. :)

My stomach wouldn't stop growling even if I kept on drinking water so I gave in and made myself a tortilla wrap. I also got myself a glass of milk.

650 calories

I didn't end up eating the grapes so I'm under my 1500 cals for the day. I hope this doesn't hurt my weigh in too much. I've got to cut out this night time eating.

Try not to get too stressed about it. At this point, the most important thing is that you make changes that you are comfortable with, and try to acquire good habits. Don't push yourself too hard, not in the beginning. You need to stay committed, and it's harder to do that if you are frustrated.

what kind of foods do you typically eat through the day?

Well, I was used to eating bread and drinking coke that's high in sugar. I basically quit cold turkey yesterday and started eating healthy. I think my body was just so used to me eating high amounts of sugar/things with lots of calories that I didn't take in enough yesterday to completely feel me up. I'm eating yogurt, fruit, Special K cereal and then something higher in calories for dinner. If the hunger continues I might have to raise my calorie intake to make sure I'm getting enough to eat.

Weighed 223 this morning. I had a really late dinner last night, so I sort of expected something like this. I'm also on my period so my body could just be retaining water.

I had yogurt this morning, snacked on some cheetos and had half a bowl of cereal. My cals are roughly around 400. I'm experiencing terrible hunger pains, though. Has anyone else had this problem when starting a diet? I mean the hunger pains are to the point where I sort of feel nauseous. I don't know if I'm taking in enough calories, but I feel full after I eat and then I'll get really hungry again.

^ Thanks. I'll try splitting my meals and see if that helps. I also haven't done well on my water today either.

Had half of a tortilla wrap and a hamburger patty with melted cheese on top with no bread and just a little ketchup. I also had a square of chocolate (I'm on my period and that's not much of an excuse but I was craving it). I also had a glass of milk and another yogurt. So my cals are around 900ish. The good thing is that I'm not hungry and I don't think I'll be likely to eat something heavy before I go to bed. If I get hungry I'll try some grapes.

You should try eating baked chicken with some veggies, as for snacks in between meals you should have fruit, yogurt, nuts etc. as for your water intake for your weight, You should have at least 111 1/2 oz of water. Hope that helps. :)

My Dad eats a lot of baked chicken so I could definitely try eating some with veggies. I have fruit I can snack on, I just need to make sure I keep up with my water intake. :)
