trying to improve

I'm new to this forum. I'm 23, 175lbs, 6'0" tall with a fairly muscular build. I have been working out for over two years now. I mostly lift weights 5 or 6 days a week and my cardio kind of comes and goes. I pretty much have obtained the size that I want, so now it is time to cut. To date my diet has been very high protein ie: Chicken, turkey, tuna, protein shakes, lean beef, egg whites, etc... I also eat a fair amount of green vegetables, fiber, and bread. My problem is, no matter how much cardio I do, I can't seem to shed this extra body fat I have covering my muscles. Especially the abs. I have come to the conclusion that it's the carbs that are killing me. So I have started this new diet, that with any luck will help me lower my body fat %, and give me the lean cut fugure that I've been after since day one. Heres a list of foods I eat on an average day. I would like some comments, suggestions, or critisism.

Breakfast:

I take 4 egg whites and one yolk, scramble them up, and put them between two slices of whole grain bread with two slices of tomato, and two slices of canadian bacon. If I don't do this I eat a bowl of cheerios or other grain cereal with skim milk. I encorperate a protein shake with either one.

Snack #1:

One medium bananna with one container of Yoplait Strawberry Yogert

Snack #2:

One medium Apple, or One Large Orange

Lunch:

One healthy choice frozen meal. (Not the small one. The ones with a main entree, and a vegetable), and a 6oz can of Starkist Tuna

Snack#3:

Another container of Yoplait Strawberry Yogert and three slices of low sodium deli turkey breast wrapped around a piece of low fat string cheese

Then I work out

Dinner:

One medium sized turkey breast, half a cup of white rice (one cup cooked), and one cup of frozen green beans, or peas
or
A salad that consists of 1 cup of romain lettace, some chopped up tomato, a chopped up carrot, one tablespoon of grated parmesean cheese, and three tablespoons of fat free itialian dressing

Then I go to sleep two or three hours later. Sometimes I slip an extra yogert in there. I heard that three servings of yogert a day can help you burn 80% more fat than otherwise, due to the calcuim. I also drink one more protein shake before I go to sleep.

Like I said, I would like some comments on this diet. Is there anything I could be doing better? Any comments appreciated, positive or negative... Thanks

You sure eat lots of carbs for someone who wants to cut carbs.
And way too many yoghurts, especially the one at night. I never heard the theory that it helps burn fat. But yoghurts are fattening and have carbs. Sure have one in the morning and maybe one straight fater you workout but that should be enough.
The fruits are also carbs by the way, not that I am saying not to eat them.
I have the same problem you have and am trying to gain size right now. I am no expert but I suggest you work out how many calories you need a day for your weight and height and then eat a bit less than that.
carbs before and after the routine are all you need, I heard that it is ok to not eat carbs apart from before and after working out (it is important to eat carbs before and after.) on days you don't work out then eat carbs just in the morning and maybe afternoon, cut the fruits before bedtime or in the evening.
As I said I am no expert, I think this site also has a nutrition forum, I know have a very good nutrition forum, so you can try there also. Good luck.
(oh one last thing - don't cut out carbs completley)

Mens health says that in a recent study men who ate three servings of yogert a day burned 80% more fat than those who didn't due to the calcium. And the yogert isn't fattening. It's fat free and it only has 19 carbs per serving. Somebody once told me that your not sopposed to eat more carbs than pounds you weigh. Such has, if I weigh 175, I can eat 175 carbs a day. If thats true, I'm well under my limit. But I don't count calories, or carbs, or anything else for that matter. When your constantly calculating everything you eat, eating becomes a chore and I lose my motavation.

I think cutting is a waste of time, only because it is so much harder to focus on than gaining weight. To me, the best way to cut is to gain more muscle, so you should just keep doing that. The extra muscle you grow will burn any fat and youll be fit. Trust me its a lot easier than trying to just burn fat right now because you might end up burning your muscle too.

wait so carbs burn easily and fat doesnt?
so how many carbs should you eat according to your weight? i'm 115 so should i eat that many carbs if im trying to lose fat quickly? or 1/2 of my weight or waht?

I wonder how you survive off that little food at your age. My metabolism has really slowed down in my "old" age (36), and I probably still eat twice that. At your age you might consider doing Berardi's "Massive Eating" routine (if you are looking to pack on some extra mass).

Before I went on this diet I was eating about twice as much as this. Thats how I gained all my muscle. In the past two years I've came from 155lbs to 178lbs. I'm trying to cut. Thats why I'm eating less.
