Trying to get cut...cardio plateau?

Hi -

So I finally started working out again steady about 2 months ago. I'm 5'9" and my goal weight is 156-158 with a good amount of muscle. 2 months ago I weighed in at 175. I've been lifting steadily and running at least 3 or 4 times per week. I've cut out junk food and snacks and drink more water. I also upped my protein intake and try not to eat later than 8 p.m or so.

So I've noticed substantial gains in strength and cardiovascular stamina, and also a decent amount of fat loss. I'm weighing in now at 165 and I'm stronger and can run like a cheetah...but I've been 165 for a few weeks and I'm afraid I'm stuck. My abs are still covered in some unsightly cottage cheese and it's almost July...!

My Cardio Routine: Treadmill. 30 mins. Walk for 3 min warmup, run for 20 mins at 7 mph, 8 mins at 8 mph...then I try to jack it up to 9 mph for the last 2. It took me a while to get to this point. At first I could only run 12 mins at 6.5 mph.

My question is: Am I not losing any more fat because I'm doing the same cardio routine I've been doing for 2 months??? Will switching over to a bike or some other form of cardio help me lose this last 7 lbs?

Frustrated,
RD:confused:

I am in a similar rut myself. Your body will definately TRY to grow accustomed to a specific routine. I've recently moved from after-work cardio to morning cardio in hopes that it will jump start the fat loss plateau i am at now.

You might also wanna take a look at your diet. As you lose weight you also need to decrease the amount of calories you take in. You still have to continue to create a caloric defecit. You may be taking in just enough calories for maintenance of your current weight.

Try some Sprint Intervals on a track.

50m sprints and then walk back. Try that for 15sets. Increase it to 100m sprints after 3-6 weeks.

Cool. thanks guys. I think I've definitely let my diet slip a little bit recently, and I've been going out to bars more often. I've just read up about High Intensity Interval Training exercises and they seem promising....

I also know that doing cardio in the morning is great for burning pure fat, because there are no carbs in the system yet to burn. Keep it up! I'm tired of jiggling when I walk, I'm gonna go hit the gym right now.. Adios

Sprinting burns carbs not fat. The best fat burning exercise is walking

do u have proof of this?

because. it works for me

to the guy above, do more cardio like the people here are saying. walking are for lazy pepps, come on please!

and yes

your body will tend to get accustomed to the same freaking cardio / workout, so change your routine 3-4 weeks :]

instead of treadmill - try the stairmaster, or elliptical

-Clean up your diet
-Increase you long low intensity cardio to 40-50 mins
-add in some HIIT
-vary your types of cardio (biking, ellipticals so on)

That combines should help you bust through your plateau.
