Hi, this is my first post here and have a few couple questions. Figure I'd give a bit of background first.
I was always big in highschool, hovering around 220-250. By 5 years after I graduated, I was up to 460 lbs. A combo of working on the road for 4+ years and eating out every meal (not an exageration... I worked in a different town every 3-4 months, and more or less, didn't have a home except hotel rooms for 4+ years). So, between that, pot, alcohol, and just not caring, I ended up 460.
Once I finally got off the road, I started to walk every night and semi-eat right. Quit smoking pot... stopped drinking and with in 5 years, i had dropped 160 lbs and was down to 300ish. 9 years ago, I met my wife and for the wedding, I got down to about 250. In the past 8 years, I have hovered around 260-300... but since I got married... stopped paying attention to what I ate and stopped walking every day.
So to sum up so far. 220ish in 1990. up to 460 by 1995. Down to 300 by 2000ish. Married 2003 @ 250ish. Now flux between 260-300 for past 8 years. (takes breath)
Fast forward to 2 weeks ago and after watching a Biggest Loser marathon on Netflix (dont laugh, kinda like the show lol) I realized it was time for me to just get it done. I quit all drugs many years ago... quit 95% of the alcohol i was drinking... quit drinking regular soda many years ago... quit smoking ciggs 7 years ago... quit diet soda a bit ago... Why couldn't I finally get my weight straight??? Well, I am =)
Here is where my questions actually come. My excercise and food plans... should they work? After looking on line, im just as confused as I was before, and being 40, I wanna do this right. here is what im doing... any suggestions or comments on additions or subtractions are appreciated.
Food: I Eat 6-7 times a day
Breakfast, snack, lunch, snack, diner, and snack. I set up myself a calorie journal and alotted myself 1700 cal per day. I have found myself having issues hitting 1700, usually ending up 1200-1500. Is that too little? (I eat and love alot of salads with extra protein, but dont use fatty dressings... so I end up feeling full, and missing the 1700 mark.)
Excercise wise:
I do 60-90 mins a day on the tread mill. The program I can manage now is this:
Min 1-5: .5-2mph
Min 6-25: 2 mph walk for 90 seconds, 4 mph run (for me still its a run) for 30 seconds repeated
Min 26-30: cool down from 2mph to .5 mph.
(I do this 2-3 times a day, spread out.)
30 mins of Wii fit+
30 mins of Wii Sports
(I do these also spread out.
So, Min of 2 hours of excercise a day, broke up throughout the day. Is that ok? To break up my work out or should I try to do it all at once.
I guess thats it. Sorry for the book, but when I put my mind to something, I want to do it... but at least do it semi-right.
Thanks a ton for your time, and any suggestions would be appreciated.
