training with a partner pt two

well I started working out at the gym today. since it was the first time I have trained with free weights it was very different for me as I am used to using the bowflex. That's not the reason that I posted though- the reason I did is because My workout was horrible, training with a partner is absolutely horrible!!!!!!! I do need a spoter but I don't know about the whole work out partner. my rest periods were all messed up, he was going one way, I was going the other, his work outs were totally different than mine, I ended up failing on my second set at 4 reps and my goal was 11, it flat out suxed.
any advise for me

merge your routines, and get a schedule between the two of you.

yeah, training partners only work when you're training all the same muscles, same exercises, same day. anything else is just a spotter, and if he's not right there when you need him, it'll ruin your pace and break focus.

yeah it kind of sux he's all on this plan where he does 4 sets of six. my routine has cycles of sets, reps and reps. plus he only works out 3 days a week and I work out 5 days. I should try to find a partner that is willing to try my program. im supposed to take every set to failier but I obviosly cant go to failier if he's not there that day which sux. today he was acting like a punk so I just worked out on the bowflex

Well, then skip failure and you won't have to worry about a partner. There's only two exercises that you need safety on for going to failure-bench and squats. Both are fixable by getting in the power rack.
