Toning up legs

I've been going to the gym for about a year now and I would like to have legs like Britney Spears. I was wondering, to get this, would I need to be building muscle or just toning? I do a lot of weights on my legs, nothing too strenuous but enough so that I can feel it. Should I be increasing the weights because my legs, although more toned than before, they aren't like Britney's. Any advice would be good. Thanks.

Legs like Britney

Pinklady,

The only way you can get legs like Britney Spears...is to be Britney Spears. You see, genetics determine exactly what your legs look like (or have the possibility of looking like). Your committment to exercise is commendable. But, before I can help you reach your leg potential, I need to know:

1. What is your EXACT exercise routine (days, exercises, reps, sets, rest periods)

2. How many calories do you eat each day and what time of day do you typically eat each meal?

3. Do you have any injuries or limitations?

Pinklady, the best advice that I can give you that works for me is to change up your routine often. I usually don't stay on a routine for more than 3 weeks. If you don't change up your routine your muscles then adapt to what you are doing and will no longer will react to the weights. That's why your muscles don't get sore anymore if you keep doing the same thing (they are use to it). Also, try to stay between 12-15 reps. If you can do 16 reps then you need to up your weight. It needs to be to where you can do 12 reps, but at 15 you're struggling.
This has worked for me, and I am able to see a lot of changes in my legs. Also you need cardio, to be able to see muscle you need to burn off all the fat that may be covering it. I hope this helps! :)

When I go to the gym, I do 10 minutes on the cross trainer, 10 minutes on the cardio machine that works on your bum, 25 minutes on the exercise. That's the cardio that I do. For weights, I do 100 reps on the machine that works the front of my thigh. I have that on 20kg. I then do 100 reps on the machine that works your hamstring on about 30kg. I then do 200 reps on the machine that works your inner thighs - this on about 25kg and then I do 200 reps on the machine that works your outer thights, on about 20kg. Eating wise, I eat porridge for breakfast, a ham salad for lunch and then I have a dinner of something like chicken and chips. I do not have any injuries.

Girl, why on earth are you doing so many reps?! Your cardio looks fine, but your 200-300 reps is insaine! And only 20kg? Come on now you need to lift heavier in order to build muscle and get more shapelier legs. Also you should try eating 5-6 small meals a day, it will help your body get all of its nutrients and speed up your metabolism. But lift heavier weights, that is the only way you will be able to gain muscle.
