scary, i'm actually doing this. I realised that I can tell myself I'm going to work out more all I want, I'm not going to stick to it unless I really want it, and make a commitment to do it. This is not so much about weightloss as it is about getting toned and.. yes, sexy.

It'd be too easy to let the prime of my life slip by, telling myself "tomorrow i'll start.." and such.

so far, all i'm doing is situps and pushups. Only 3 reps of 10, and less of the pushups, at the moment, but i'm trying to increase it. I just literally can't manage any more, I feel so weak.

so, how much should I be doing, what kind of schedule should I be working towards? (please be gentle..)

other than that, I've started taking the stairs (4 floors) and I walk about 30 minutes most days. Anybody know a site with instructions on the sort of stretches I should be doing before/after walking/jogging?

I'd like to run, but leaving the apartment here involves carrying big-ass-keys, wallet, passport, subway map, street map, two phones, water.. and I don't like running with a giant bag flopping around. When i'm back at home (september) I'll be able to run and cycle, and buy weights, too.

oh yeah, I need one of you guys to do me a favor:
book a flight to JFK, come find me, i'm in the east village, grab me by the shirt and yell: "I KNOW it's expensive and you're broke, but ditch your THREE year old running shoes and invest in some new ones, for christsake!"

what's worse, I even know this shop where they have you run on a treadmill and they work out exactly what shoe is best for you and i'm just not going to find that kind of service when i'm back i nowheresville! I really should go..
how much can I expect to pay for decent running shoes?

on another subject, I wonder if anyone has had this problem: two years ago, I had a bad ear infection. Ever since then, whenever I am breathing hard through my nose during exercise or even if i'm just walking for a while, something "clicks" in my ear, and it's like I CAN HEAR DARTH VADER BREATHING IN MY EAR.
or rather, it's like i'm feeling the force of my own breath on the inside of my eardrum. It gets downright painful. Wearing earbuds seems to slow it down, but it still happens.
I asked my GP, and he said it was probably just residual fluid in the middle-ear or some jargon like that. I think i'll ask to see a specialist or something, because it's driving me bonkers.

Welcome to the diary! Oh...and lookover toward LonGisland, I'm in CT just across the Sound and I am yelling:

"I KNOW it's expensive and you're broke, but ditch your THREE year old running shoes and invest in some new ones, for christsake!"

Good luck in your journey, If the restofya looks anything like the backofya, you're doing something right already!

so.. this is my rough mealplan for today;

btw, the fat is not intentionally that low... often I have some avocado, or I steal my boyfriends flax seeds. he's away for a week, so no flax. or even sex. but hey, I'll survive.

edit.. you guys don't have IMG tags?

*huffy* oh, fine, you're not getting those full body shots, then.

:) seriously tho, if anybody is reading this- need quick advice; are black shoes going to make my feet boil? style-wise, I want them, but I've never worn black running shoes.. I don't want my feet to catch fire when it's sunny... is this really a problem or am I just being paranoid? I'm going to go to back to my wonderful shoe shop today, and I don't want to come back with my new 95 $ black shoes, check the forum and find everyone saying "oh god, never get black running shoes, you'll die.." so please help ^.^

a black tshirt will attract heat and probably make you a little warmer than you would be if you were wearing a white tshirt but I seriously doubt that black gym shoes will make your feet any hotter - feet are gonna get hot in shoes no matter what :) I'd suggest a good pair of wicking socks to help keep your feet from staying wet but shoe color won't make a difference.

My local running shoe store has a sign in the store, that it's not the color of the shoe that matters but how it fits...

thanks for posting mal :)

I just found .
but, I find it highly doubtful. First of all, human feet aren't water balloons, these shoes are mesh not leather, and how does an infrared heat lamp compare to the sun?? I can't believe that i'm even making myself nuts over this.. oh hell, it probably really doesn't make much difference, except that black wont look dirty as soon... I'm so torn.

I guess the reason i'm so picky is 'cos I had my last pair for three years so I feel like I'm going to be stuck with these forever.
Maybe this time I can just get my parents to buy me another of the same model sooner, so I can rotate them.

I'll check out the socks, I think that store has 'em. though maybe I should buy online.. cheaper..?

3 years for one pair of shoes is a long time -

the average shoe is good for about 250-300 miles (depending on weight of the person) I probably trained close to 700 miles for the walk I did last weekend, and went thru about 4 pairs of shoes...

yeah, it was wayyy too long... The shop had this "shoes for africa" thing so some african kid will have to use them. (poor kid).

well, that settles it. I'll see if they have the somewhat off-white version, because I KNOW how silly I am with these things and I know that every time my feet get hot in them i'll think I shouldn't have gotten them in black, even if it makes no difference whatsoever. Plus, that'll motivate me to use them up quickly, then I'll get the black ones. Furthermore, then I can wear black on one side and white on the other foot and see if it makes a difference, and then my need for silliness will have been met. Though.. then again.. black.. so pretty and goes with everything.. screw it, I'll decide when I get there..

oh, shoot me!

I hereby declare myself the queen of indecision. long story short I walked out with a , which gave me more stability on the treadmill. I love this shop 'cos they put up with me.

wow. actual shock absorption. I missed that feeling. now to start actually running in them..
