To eat or not to eat...that is the question.

I have a question that i am battling with and am hoping you guys can provide some clarification.

On days like this, when it's reeeeeally hot, i really honestly don't feel like eating.

All experts say you shouldn't not eat because it slows down your metabolism, but if you're really not hungry at all, should you still eat?

I feel the same way in the heat, if it is to hot to eat i usually try to have some fruit juce or an energy drink otherwise the heat saps my energy completely and i feel worse.

Maybe have a protein shake with ice. It would cool you don't without feeling like it's weighing you down.

I have a slightly different opinion... I think if you are not hungry, you don't need to eat. You should trust your body to some degree to let you know whether you need food or not, unless you have a known illness or disorder that may prevent hunger/fullness signals from reaching your brain. I think if you get consistantly an adequate number of calories per day, whether it is early in the morning or late in the evening, then your metabolism should not slow down. But, when its hot, I would advise drinking something with calories in it, which may not be too filling, like cold fruit juice, or sports drink (if you are outside and sweating a LOT). You may also eat light fruit like watermelon. It is mostly water and fiber and the best treat for when its hot!

I read that for a guy that doesn't eat breakfast, it can be enough simply to do so for him to start loosing weight. True or not, I think you should have breakfast lunch and dinner. Those three meals are a must in my book, which is weird 'cus two years ago I dind't eat breakfast, and almost never lunch.

If you're hungry or not, I think the best thing is to start off with breakfast. What your tummy tells you doesn't matter. If I listened to everything my body tells me I'd never get out of bed. So, you can't always listen to it. Eat breakfast, eat something before dinner so you don't have any candy cravings and so that you don't mentally slow down. Also, it reduces the food intake per meal, spreads it out more.

Think of your cells as a factory. If it's running on a low budget, it'll produce very little. And their production is what leads to weightloss. If you only eat once a day, the factory won't run smoothly...

it's absolutely true that we shouldn't skip out on meals. if your body is getting a consistent cycle of calories, that ups your metabolism. this helps you to BURN more calories, because your body isn't feeling like it's going to be on a starvation cycle, but will continue to be adequately supplied.

i know the feeling of wanting to just skip out, but i've tried my hardest to retrain my thinking to not skip meals. we want to love our metabolism and nurture it so that it will help US in losing weight, not work against us!! :)

I think I agree with both sides. No you shouldn't go all day without eating, but yes you should listen to your body. If you don't feel hungry because of the heat, ok. Have a light snack instead of a full meal. The body must have something to digest to keep the metabolism rate up. That doesn't mean it need a full meal to do it. Have a piece of fruit. If it's been chilled that will help you feel cooler as well. Also remember to increase your fluid intake in the heat!
