To Cut or Bulk?

Hello.

I'm 23, 6'0 and 180lbs and am wondering if I should I bulk or cut? I thought about trying both but I have heard it doesn't really work and you get minimal gains.

From the looks of it, I'd say you should cut. Because, you'd be able to see results from a cutting cycle more clearly than that of a bulking once since you're already a little bigger. And then whenever it would come time to bulk, you would see the results then more clearly.

Verdict: Lose the fat first. Then get big again, in a muscular way.

EDIT: Being able to see the results can be very important in terms of motivation I've found.
 
just eat a maintenance of calories and go to the gym. Since your a newbie your body will immediately see body compostion changes.

Pick a good beginner's routine (most preferably strength based) that fits around your schedule and stick to it for 3 months and you'll see some changes. Don't overeat as to bulk or get fat and don't undereat as to lose weight.

You can think of the whole bulk/cutting thing later on.
