to all you PTs

I've wanted to be a paramedic for years, but My ambulance service are still not taking anybody on. I'm looking at other options.

I found a course that will deliver a entry level course, NVQ lev2 gym instructing and NVQ lev 3 PT, with an option to do a GP referal course.

I am in full time work, and can pay for the course and stay in my job while i do the courses.

I wanted to know what sort of money PT's can earn and how much they enjoy there jobs.

If it is with Future Fit then dont bother. I have just qualified with them and I can safely say that you would learn more about fitness by reading one ultra-lame Matt bloody Roberts book.

Honestly, they didnt teach me anything- I have had to learn it all myself by getting 121 lessons with good PTs, reading tonnes of books and websites, reading about chiropractise, osteopathy, alexander technique etc.

The only English company I would go with is Premier- it is a £4000 12 wk course that is well respected.

However, if you are willing to do your own research in your own time and just want to get the qualification then Future Fit and YMCA are both cheaper.

it depends on whether you will be working for a gym or working for yourself.
On your own, you can make $50-100 an hour; depending on what you want to charge. But you also have to get your own clients, do your own marketing and schedule around your clients' availability. It's good $$ though!

At a gym, you'll make less, but have lots of equipment available, and the potential clients are there because they want fitness.

Best bet is to do both.

As a successful personal trainer turned fitness manager, I can tell you exactly how much you "can" make. Given the amount of effort you put into learning more...attending continuing education...marketing yourself (thru health fairs, flyers, word of mouth), and how many clients you tend to keep--you can make between $30-$50K/year.

If you work in a gym setting, be prepared to sell your services. The better you are the more money you can make ($15-$35/hr.)

Some trainers get bored of training clients, but in reality, they are really getting bored of themsleves and there lack of growth in their careers and field.

Don't be one of those guys...this can be a rewarding career if you choose to prosper!

Kent,
John is right!
I often get bored of training clients myself. After working with athletes for so many years, it was tough for me to start working with general population clients. But this is where the money is!
You have to love fitness, which I know you do, and have to be committed and motivated.
There are so many "average trainers" out there claiming to be successful. If you love the field, get into it, but dont EVER stop learning. The industry is ever-changing!

Cool,
It looks like a really good course, and after I can do Doctors Refferal courses, ex to music, advanced nutrition and tonnes of other things.

I gotta talk to the guy on monday and sort out some course dates.
