:party:Yoyo dieter from way back.

I lost 36kg 5 years ago and never got over it! I was super fit and healthy and I want to regain that. Currently weighing 84kg and need to lose 20 or more.

I overeat for all sorts of reasons but mainly as a stress reaction. I would love to conquer this as its what defeats me time and again.

Any advice on the overeating would be great!:dupe:

best advice i can offer on overeating is really practice portion control - if you have snacks in the house -keep them in portioned p acks..
NEVER eat anything that's not on a plate,
NEVER eat anything directly out of the container.
NEVER eat anything when you're not sitting down.

Those 3 nevers will take you really far... then plan plan plan your day.. it can be a little obsessive -but if you know what you're eating - it makes the danger of overeating a lot less..

Make sure you are eating enough during the day... that you aren't going to low on calories -that leads to constant hunger and binges...

hey its nice to know someone is out there reading this! thanks for the response.

I find it difficult because I work 10 hours a day and am a single mum. Some nights when I get home all i want to do is sit down, but I have to provide dinner. Therefore, sometimes I weaken and get takeaway especially if I am stressed about something else.

My kids are also very fussy eaters (they are 11 and 15) and whinge about every piece of food I supply - its not "yummy enough". They are junk addicts even though I have supplied healthy meals nearly every night of their lives, which they often flatly refuse to eat.

So I provide snacks for them which I end up eating myself. HELP!

Tough love hat going on:
stop making excuses - either you want to lose weight or you dont... if youo want to lose weight.. then plan out your meals -spend one day a week cooking for the week and freeze it and defrost it when you need it... If you want to lose weight and get healtheir, you'll make the time.. it's no ta huge time investment.. and the money you save on takeaway stuff -you can put towards a smokin' new wardrobe.

As for the kids - they eat what you make or they go hungry... my sister's demon spawn act like my sister's kitchen is a restaurant it drives me nuts -- why cater to them - tough - eat what's fixed or don't eat... they'll get it eventually... our mother didn't make special meals because child one gets grossed out by green stuff.. get over it... (some say it's a good thing i can't have kids :D

Put the snacks in portioned containers...

and see rule abourt NEVER eating out of the package.

:piggy:hey thanks for the advice, I could do the portioned snacks thing for my kids as well, never even thought of it! I can bag them up and label them. They drive me nuts with their nagging for food.

Do you have any healthy snack suggestions?

I'm assuming you're in OZ, so you might have different snack foods than we do here...

I like the whole grain goldfish crackers, almonds, other crackers w/ thin slices of cheese, wasa crackers w/ jam.

I'll also keep hard boiled eggs in the fridge, apples, celery and carrot sticks w/ hummus.

you could also do skewers of chicken or turkey breast chunks, broiled or grilled and left in the fridge... / chunks of veggies or fruits

Read labels when you're grocery shopping, and try to go for all natural products -basically if there's somethig on the ingredients list that you couldnt find elsewhere in the store, pass on it.. least that's my philosophy...

snacks aren't bad - as long as the portion size is followed - so when reading labels note the portion size... I will use whole grain cereal as snacks to keep stashed in my desk drawer at work...

Yes I am in Oz.

Thanks for advice. Im thinking of maybe doing some sushi which they will both eat. cucumber, avocado, tuna. or maybe not tuna lol.

its going to be hard work but youre right, I havent been organised enough. I can do this!

I'm totally with you on that, Mal. They may go hungry for a day or so, but eventually they'll learn to eat what you make or go hungry. Kids who are picky eaters are so b/c they know they can get away with it. I've heard that pickty eating is really a control issue more than a taste bud issue.

Anyway, welcome to WLF Aussiemum! Where in Aussieland are you? My H is from Melbourne. :)

Hi from :eh:
I just had to stop by when I read the name of your journal! LOL I am a tired Canadian Mom! hee hee

I sympathize with how whiney kids can wear you down. The way I handle it is to just straight not buy junk food in general. For an occasional treat I will, otherwise, no. If they want it badly enough, they can scrape up the change for it. Even though we've just had Hallowe'en over here (read in kids going begging door-to-door for candy) and our house now actually does have some junk, I have hidden it and dole it out in very small portions! The biggest culprit in my house is my husband! He is very thin, and seems to crave junk. It's nasty. I do make healthy-ish meals on a regular basis, and everyone eats them. The rule in my kitchen is: TAKE IT OR LEAVE IT! I am way too busy (as are you, obviously!) to make "special" meals for picky eaters. And BTW, if they don't eat 3 fruits or veggies in a day, they get NO SWEET at all, not even a healthy one I've baked! I am the devil :reddevil:...

At any rate, you really do owe it to yourself to lose weight and get healthy! You know you'll feel so much better and have waaaay more energy (phys. & emotionally). You are also setting a fab example for your kids, whether they will acknowledge it or not.

So I guess you have to expect some complaining, but you don't have to cave in to their childish desires. You're THE BOSS! :sifone:

I am doing Weight Watchers, and it works wonders. Very real, very flexible, mainly portion control and loads of support. I highly recommend it! But you can lose the weight on your own, too; and this is just the place to help you do it. Good luck!!!

cheers from :eh:

Hi to tired mums everywhere!!

My kids never eat fruit. Im thinkin popcorn, crackers and cheese, muffins. they might eat grapes or watermelon if i cut it up for them.

you would think they were 5 and 1 !

Tomorrow I am going to start with my exercise every day regime. Im so incredibly good at making excuses but Ive decided no more. I just keep getting fatter and fatter and more and more depressed about it.

Im planning a healthy lunch and dinner. chicken pasta for dinner, healthy roll for lunch. I will make some fruit salad to have with yogurt and make the kids eat some too.
I have been to weight watchers twice before and agree that it may well be what I need to get a kick start again, however at the moment money is an issue and Id really like to do it alone...havent been too successful so far so thats where accountability on this site comes in...hopefully will help...cross fingers!

I am in Adelaide :cheers2:

You are absolutley correct about it being a control issue. Them eating healthily has always been one of my focuses as a mum and seems to be a constant tug of war.

Hi Mum
Sounds like you are on track today with your healthy eating! Have a great day and a healthy week! You are "on your weigh"...

cheers

Hey there welcome aboard:DI was drawm to your diary by your name...I too am a single of 2 children - ages 13 and 3...I also work 10 hr shifts and my dead dog tired when I get home...Also I work as a relief staff so alot of the times I will work 60 - 70 hrs a week...sometimes I cave and do take out and eat out and so on and so on...I have picky ass kids that like to eat crap as well...well my youngest is alot better than my oldest...

It is hard when they reach the ages of your children b/c we stop beign able to control as much as we use too...

Im restarting I had lost a fair amount of weight...i took a break when I got a new job 3 months ago and it took over my life - lol...Ive been trying hard to find my balance of life with the kids and work and so on...takin care of myself...but i knwo i gotta do this for me...in the past 3 months i put back on 13lbs...

Anyway I am interested in following you and gettin to know you better...

Hey Cinderelly and everyone,

thanks for the support!

Im truly amazed anyone wants to follow my journey, and very glad! Being so busy I rarely have a chance to speak to anyone who is interested in little old me!

Is 6.09am andthe day has started as it always does, with me lying in bed trying to figure out an excuse not to get on my treadmill.

I have no fruit in the house as I didnt get a chance to go shopping yesterday (I worked on a sunday...ew). I have no bread or snacks for the kids either.

It looks like Ill have to give them some money for lunch (again) and I will have to try to figure out a way to hit the shops after work. I dont get home till 6pm anyway so thats more time wasted before I can get a meal on the table.

Of course all of this is done to the tune of "wats for tea" and "im hungry"...two phrases I wish I never had to hear again!

And no, my kids wont get off their butts to help. Completely unable to operate a potato peeler and as far as knives are concerned...forget it!

ok no more excuses Im on my treadmill. half an hour.

god what a weakling.

the excuses won - todays - I have crap all over my treadmill due to last weeks dead kitten saga, and Idont know where my shoes are.

Good arent I?

mehhhh....just weighed myself - 84.8kg.

NOT GOOD

i shouldve got on my treadmill.....hmmmm perphaps theres a lesson there? lol

anyway off to work....another day at the grindstone.

take care everyone I will check in tonite my time, my most DIFFICULT time.

Here's how you get your kids to help you cook--tell them they aren't getting anything to eat unless they do. Cooking together's a great way to spend time with your kids, and teach them something at the same time. I've heard that kids are much more likely to try new foods if they've helped to cook them. Just a thought.

Hope you get through your most difficult time all right. I used to be the queen of excuses. But that got me absolutely nowhere. My current motto is: NO EXCUSES!! So far, I've lost over 50lbs. For me exercise isn't optional, it's mandatory. I think one needs to reach a point where they think, "Enough is enough. I AM going to lose the weight." Once you've decided you WILL as opposed to you'll TRY, you'll do it. It's really 80% mental for most people. I told myself for years that I couldn't lose weight unless I was in the perfect environment. Well, my environment is far from perfect, but I'm still doing it. you can, too. :)

Ok, there's your pep talk for the week...haha!

Hope this helps! :biggrinjester:

hi

yes it sure does!

I had a very good day eating wise. I literally have no more excuses. I have a gym membership and a treadmill! So tomorrow Im going to force myself onto it before I even log on.

As far as the kids are concerned - I wouldnt have mine in a confined space together with knives!

Well done on your loss! Thats an awesome effort!

Day two and ive nearly made it.

I weighed this morning, I was only 84kg (loss of nearly 1kg) which Im just going to put down to fluctuations.

I actually got on my treadmill this morning! yayay

I havent over eaten today at all...I have a theory that the days I break a sweat are the days I seem to have control over my bingeing. Is this because of the "feelgood" chemicals exercise releases? probably.......so why dont I do it every day?

good question....
