Thin girl needs help

Hi, Im 5'7" about 123lbs, long and thin, very thin in my opinion. Most would say that is a good thing. However, Im 38 years old and not very tone. My problem area, like most women, is my butt and thighs. This area has never been very tone for me. Ive noticed as I get older that Im storing more fat in these areas and have started to get some cellulite as well. How can I fight the cellulite without losing more weight. I dont want to thin out much more than I already am. I have tried lunges and squats, but I tend to lose weight and not really gain mass. Also, if I gain mass and not really stick with the same level of exercise will I have even worse problems with sagging/flabby thighs and butt afterwards? I dont mean to sound ignorant, but I need some help here. I appreciate any comments. Thank you.

I'd plan on making a lifestyle change either way. I'd also get take in enough calories to build muscle (not lose weight) and work mostly on strength training. Little cardio. Perhaps fast walking a few days a week to keep the heart/lungs in shape.

But if you strength training and do NOT take in enough calories you will eat current muscle and NOT gain muscle. To build muscle you need a caloric surplus.

Another reason I recommend weights is because at your age and body frame you need all the help you can to fight osteoporosis. Weights are a great defense against that.

Adding muscle will help give you shape and reduce body fat (more muscle means more calories burned throughout the day).

Thanks Lynn. Your right on the money. How did you know that I barely eat? LOL No wonder I have'nt really seen any results in the past when using weights. I guess, stupidly enough, I thought the weight alone tore the muscle and the mass came as the muscle repaired itself. However, the repair part needs fuel right? My diet has always been terrible. Breakfast is usually not included. Lunch will usually consist of pizza or a sub. Dinner more of the same unless I feel like cooking and then, I live with all men so its pretty much alot of pasta, potatoes, mac and cheese etc... Your also right about needing a lifestyle change. Is it too late at 38? =) Thanks for your advice I really appreciate it.

Very good points from Lynn. I used to be very skinny as well. I'm still slender, but I have a nice muscle base and I look fit. My body fat is still nice and low.
Have you ever done weight training before? If not, having someone help you who knows what they're doing is a good idea. Very slowly adding some lean proteins and complex carbs will help. Make sure to add any calories real slow so you can find the right level for you to just gain a bit of muscle, but not a bunch of fat.
And it's never too late! I've had people in their 60's come to me for help, and they would definately say that it wasn't too late!
Sarah
