Thin and Cut

About a year ago I weighed 200-210 and after doing the Abs Diet I am now around 160-165. The diet worked great but I still wish to work on my body. The diet gave me a good way of eating, 6 meals a day, 3 meals, 3 snacks all containing certain foods of protien, poly and monounsaturated fats, good fats, whole wheat carbs all that jazz and an exercise program with ab targeting specifics. I am still sticking with exercising regularly every day and eating pretty healthy but I seem to be stuck in the 160s and with stubborn belly fat. I'm not so much interested in losing more weight, I just want to get my core lookin good. i.e. Brad Pitt in Fight Club. My abs are already slightly defined (flexing) but any suggestions on what to do about stubborn belly fat?

i think i'll hurl if i see any more "pitt in fight club" haha

just kidding.

post some pics and we can further assist you.

what is your diet, training look like?

what is your age, sex?

height?

if you truly want to get rid of your belly fat, since you cannot spot reduce, the only thing you can do is remain in a deficit, and let your body do the rest. incorporate weight training and cardio, with a healthy balanced diet, and you will get results.

btw are you weight training?

male, 22.

yes i weight train (I think) and i run 30 mins almost every day for cardio.

I do my core and weights monday and wednesday. then just weights friday, and just my core, saturdays. I suppose i've plateaued somewhat, i only have so many weights, that could be a problem.

my core excercises consist of, weighted crunches, side bends, bridges, raised knee ins, and this one awesome thing I love but cant remember the name. I put my hands behind my head, lifitng my shoulder blades off the ground then bend from side to side.

weights/other: curls, military press, rows, squats, push-ups

diet: turkey sasuage, eggs, I only eat whole wheat breads and sparingly, turkey bacon, spinnach, almonds, cashews, milk, yogurt, cheese, carrots, fish, lunch meat (turkey). turkey hot dogs, lean ground meat, lean beef, kidney beans cant really think of much more.

If your diet has helped you loose weight this far, and you plateaued check it again and see if maybe your caloric intake needs have changed as well. You may also want to mix up your workout a bit. change the exercises, and/or the level in which you do them.

cheers,
Diane

Yeah, you might need to change things up a bit. When doing your cardio, have you tried High Intensity Interval Training? I've heard that this is a more effective way to burn fat.

Yes, I occasionally do interval cardio but going straight for 30 mins feels so much better than an interval run.

I don't know much about calories. I did both South Beach and Abs diet and neither really mentions calories.

I'll try changing stuff around for my workout. Any suggested core excercises?

if you've lost that much weight with your diet you have definitely hit a plateau, but dont worry that doesnt necessarily mean you have to cut anymore calories. Have you ever heard of the zig zag method??? what you should have been doin is deficit (20-25%) 3days then back to maintenance for 1 or something close to this. If you didnt do this then even with a perfect diet and training program are bodies are very good at maintaning homeostasis so your body lowered its basal metabolic rate to account for your deficit and since you lost that much weight you gave your body a while to get accustomed. Try taking a break on your deficit for about a week and go back up to maintenance level then try this style of diet and it will most certainly work. I infact just started this way of dieting after hitting a plateau of 11%BF a week ago and it seems to be working great.

Then you'll be better off with a straight 30 minute. Otherwise your motivation might suffer.

I'd avoid concentrating too much on your abs. Ab exercises do not burn a lot of calories, and that is where you need to focus in order to shed that belly fat. Instead, add more compound lifts to your routine like Bench Press, Pull-Ups and Dead-Lifts.

Is there a book or something about what you're talking about, because I have no clue what you're saying. It sounds interesting though. I'll look into calories too, if that'll help with my left over belly fat. Any good books?

Have you thought about bulking for like 10 or so pounds? That would def break you through your plateau...also, being skinny doesn't really do much for you unless you have the muscle to show off. At 160, you can't be too muscular (and I don't mean that in a bad way). I just think it's a good idea to change your routine some. Eat the same foods, but just eat a little more and focus more on weight training for like 2 months. Then, trim back down. I bet you see a good difference in your appearance if you do that. That's just my .02 though

"Abs Diet" is that one of those diets that tries to tell you that carbs are evil? Because they aren't, especially after you lift weights. Plus, fiber is a carb, and fiber is something you should really be eating a lot of (think of your digestive system!).
