Thick chocolate milkshake...

Hi all!

I've made this a few times. I don't count carbs, so I don't take that into account but it's a thick, rich milkshake that I personally think tastes almost too good to be good for you.

This is not something you'd drink in quantity, because it's not super low in calories, but I've used it to satisfy chocolate cravings when they have turned up.

I have also had this for breakfast - sometimes with a handful of wheat bran thrown in to add to the fibre. It keeps me full for quite a while too, which I think is the banana.

1 cup skim milk (250 ml) - about 170 calories
1 banana (medium size) - about 85 calories
1 tablespoon unsweetened cocoa - about 10
Ice, if you want it to be very cold.

Throw everything in the blender, and blend it until it's thick and well mixed. The banana helps to make the milk thick, and the sweetness of the fruit makes the cocoa taste good. It's a good way to get a chocolate fix without too much fat or refined sugar.

Total calories 265 or so.

I've read that a milkshake made with 2 scoops of icecream, a cup of milk and chocolate syrup can have over 900 calories. This isn't really as great as a full milkshake, but saving over 600 calories is well worth it! You can add more milk to increase the volume if you want more.

265 calories isn't too bad for breakfast AND it's chocolatey!! Me likes that. Thanks for sharing! :D

No worries! Unsweetened cocoa is horrible by itself, but it has so few calories you can increase the amount to suit your taste. Plus this also loads you up on potassium, vitamin C, calcium and other good things.

Maybe it's just because I haven't had chocolate since last November but it sounds yummy!

Oh & you will be happy to know you overestimated the calories. I think skim milk has about 90 in a glass.

Great suggestion, thanks! I have some carob powder at home that I've been experimenting with, and I may try to substitute that for the cocoa powder. Can you taste the banana at all?

This sounds great! I'm making one tonight.

Thanks for sharing!
