They’ve Lost Over 626 Pounds!

Interesting story on a group of 9 gals from around the world who used the internet to band together to lose some weight. Their private small group allowed them to exchange ideas, examine behaviors, complain, or vent without worry about hurting other people’s feelings.

No wacky diets, no daffy detoxes.

They just did what has always worked and will keep the pounds off.

Like Ann, a retired, 65-year-old school administrator who has lost more than 100 pounds.

"I signed on at the gym under a physiologist. For the next three months I went to gym, first three days a week, then five, then six. I watched the physiologist work. I saw that I could lift a weight and use the exercise equipment. Maybe I could even . . .

Could I?

I talked to the physiologist about a nutrition plan. And I hit a gold mine. He was not interested in putting me on a diet. He does not believe in diets. He understood that I was very interested in losing weight, but not interested in losing weight only to gain it all back. He believes in changing a lifestyle and finding a way to eat healthfully and realistically for always...."

Or GRANT_ME_WINGS, a 20-something MD/PhD candidate in Boston who has lost 103 pounds.

"The word "diet" is not in my vocabulary. I am not "on a diet". I will never be "on a diet". I'm eating well and working out because it makes me feel good. Beyond good, even.

Exercise has become a regular part of my life... when I can't get to the gym I find that I really miss my workouts. That feeling after having run longer than ever before (and I remember the day when I ran 5 minutes and couldn't believe I had done it). The feeling of meeting people who haven't seen me in a year and everyone noticing that I'm suddenly much smaller. The feeling of going and doing things that I didn't think I could do..."

These stories are truly inspiring.

If you're looking for answers and want to know what really works...

I don't get why people find these stories inspiring but - eh - if it works for people that's great..

People are doing what they need to do for themselves...

Hey put Wishes, me, and a handful of others from this forum alone betcha we'd beat that 626lbs easily...

Well, it's not a competition for who loses the most weight ever. You're inspiring, they're inspiring, we're all inspiring. Now lets calm down and be nice. :)

it's not competition .. it's the inspiring I object to.. :D

My personal belief...

I get so sick of the the articles on cnn and other websites of Joe Schmoe who lost 56 lbs and gained his life back... whatever... Weight loss is not that big a deal, it's not newsworthy, and not at all inspiring to me... :D

If it works for others - great but I'd contend that from what I've seen of people on spark -the ones that use the word inspiring the most - are the least inspired..

We need more perspiration and less inspiration :D

I'd have to agree with you Mal. I mean the only reason I was overweight is because I loved fatty food and was too lazy to exercise. I don't think becoming less lazy and consuming less as inspirational. However, for some reason people do tend to get inspired when they see these stories. They go out and do something about their situation and try to make their life better. So how can we not say it's inspirational?
