These last 10 pounds...

During teenage years I blew up to almost 150, made way back down to 135 then lost another 15 lbs. The problem is that I have been stuck at 120 for over a year and my ultimate goal has always been to be 110. Not a fan of exercise, however I do work at a hospital in which a gym is open free to me. I do watch my calories, never eating more than 800 a day or I will gain based on experience. I have hypothyroidism and have had it for a number of years, only just now tested and put on medicine for it back in June. Any tips/advice to get these last 10 off? It's upsetting seeing people all around me successful with their weight loss while I am at a complete standstill and never content with myself... 18 years old, college student living at home. Will update along the way as now I will try my hardest ever to shed this fat off and get into much better shape than I am.

Hi Brooke and welcome to our forum! I think your best bet is going to be your medication kicking in, because at 800 kcal a day working an active job there´s no real way you´re going to have the energy to exercise. Did you tell your doctor what/how much you are eating? If you didn´t, you should and I really hope they´ll be decent and supportive. Best of luck on your journey and I very much hope it´ll get easier for you soon.

Hi Brooke!

Agreeing with LaMa, 800 cal is an unhealthy intake; it might be putting your body into starvation mode, with long-term consequences (including inability to maintain a good weight since your metabolism could get confused). I'd find a good maintenance goal, calorie-wise, and see what the meds do.

Also, at age 18, you might still be growing, so that 10 lbs might be waiting for some vertical growth.

What I have tried the last 3 days has been the military diet. I have modifed a few things, taken out a few things, and just plain not eaten some of the food on the list.

Day one: banana, 2 wheat toast, a couple grapes along w/ two grape sized slices of pineapple, half a cup of cooked bell peppers, about 4 ounces of grilled chicken, then the last thing was 4oz ice cream.

Day two: 2 eggs, 1 wheat toast, 6 saltine crackers, banana, 40z ice cream. Then got naughty in middle of night and grabbed another banana to eat...

Day 3: 1 wheat toast, 1 egg, 2 50 cal applesauces (fruit) 1 cheddar cheese, 4 oz grilled chicken w/ a few pieces of jalepeno pepper, 40z icecream. Also got naughty tonight and ate 3/4 banana and 1.5 gummy fruit snacks which would be 120 cals and banana about 75, but I did not eat all that was listed today so shouldn't impact hardly at all.

Conclusion: I have not weighed myself, my college classes start back up at 9am, (I should be asleep right now) but I will make Sunday my weigh in day as I will make sure Friday, Saturday, Sunday I get plenty of liquids through and a good night of rest before the weigh in Sunday.

Plan: Will re-do 3 day diet again starting today, see what happens. However, Friday will not be able to complete as I am allowing myself to some jalepeno poppers (to be baked) that I made for a little anniversary with my partner. Will probably only have eggs and toast before the poppers on Friday as part of the diet so I don't binge at the tasty treats.

Weighed myself today after a decent amount of sleep.

Hoping it is not just water weight, however I keep a good eye on my sodium and fluid intake, especially a few days before weigh in so this should be an accurate weigh in. A little over 5 more lbs to go, hoping it goes a little fast.. and that I can keep it off. Have never been this low, pat on the back to me!

Another pat on the back from me! Keeping it off if you´ve never been this low isn´t easy, but you´re certainly proving that you´re committed.

Today was a bit tough, I am by no doubt losing my mind a little bit at a time. I have been kind of shaky but surely lightheaded the past two days, however I am hydrated to the correct amount so it cannot be that. Anyway, food for today I thought I would post, not my proudest day.

2 wheat toast (120)
applesauce (50) single saltine (10)
bigger turkey meatball mixed w/ sauce and stuffing (180) ketchup (20)
the ice cream (still sort of following military diet, today was more of just be careful restricting day) but (150)

So... 605 total and I am thinking about grabbing one more wheat toast so 665 total which isn't "TERRIBLE" considering I had work today as well as class which means walking around a bit, but definitely not proud moment worthy. Always a fresh start tomorrow!

Shaky and lightheaded? 605 kcal, most of those in simple carbs? Those fit together very well, your body is getting starved of both calories and nutrients honey. Please, please get thee to a doctor/counselor before you develop bone density problems, period problems or heart trouble. If that sounds alarmist: I´m sorry but I am alarmed.

It's because you're starving yourself, Brooke, seriously. Take a look at this article, you're at starvation levels based on food alone, never mind the exercise. Seriously, seek out the advice of a doctor or dietician before you keep doing this.

I´m very glad to hear it, hon. Still: talking to your GP (if they´re generally decent people) about it might be a good idea.

Hello, with the situation I am in at home making a doctor visit would be very pricey even if just for something simple. We do have insurance, however, my mother has moved out so even paying the due amount on our side, it is a very much burden. Friday, Saturday, and Sunday were cheat (more than cheat) days due to the fact that I let myself enjoy all foods while on a little trip two states away. I am back to regular good eating. Will weigh in Saturday or Sunday, but I have most likely destroyed my progress due to this past weekend. Diet now consists of eggs, wheat bread, fruits, the occasional apple sauce, plenty of water as well as some diet mountain dew (yes I know, very bad for you) We'll see what the scale says Sunday, even though I am first set on FEELING better. Maybe TMI, also working on regaining back fluids due to the reaction my body had on Monday after a weekend of shit eating... Body rejected plenty haha.

Retaining water after eating more is quite normal, don´t worry about it. I´m glad to hear you´re trying to eat a bit more varied but I´m definitely missing the veggies in your list :p (I know, I know... but they´re important and taste great if cooked properly.)

How's the medicine and symptoms coming along for the hypothyroidism? Obviously when it comes to setting calories and judging weight loss, a hypothyroid condition can make things rather complicated. When your hormone levels are really out of whack, it can be REALLY difficult for anyone to lose weight, particularly when you're not that heavy to begin with.

If your hormone levels have responded to the medicine, you may actually be able to bump the calories up a bit and still lose weight. Because of your condition though, it's really hard to give accurate advice on calories.

Wondering if your school has a dietician? Or even a RD (reg'd dietician) program looking for guinea pigs? My sister-in-law is an RD, and when she was in college, they asked me around for a couple of experiments.
