The UGLY truth about weight loss after kids

So I worked hard and lost 50 lbs. My waist has gone from 36" down to 29.5" - but what no one could really tell me was what my skin would look like afterwards.

Well, now I know.

While I have to admit that it IS getting better the more toned I get, I think that unless I want to have surgery, I'm stuck with this gross thing...

Thank goodness clothes cover this mess up and help hold it up and in so that I look nice and fit.

But really? Who wants a butt hole on their tummy for the rest of their life???

I think you have done amazing work there losing so much weight! And I think you should be very proud of yourself, youve made a big step for your health! :)

I would say that you must give time for yourself because skin just wont go back just like that.. Are you doing muscle training and exercising your stomach muscles for example? But I hear your problem.. And I understand how bad it may feel, but I still think you must think about the healthy side of it. Good luck!

I feel your pain and I haven't had kids yet :banghead: I have very sensitive skin and develop stretch marks very easily. I will never be able to wear a bikinni or feel comfortable naked. My tummy looks very similar and I have lost around 75 pounds. I guess I don't have a lot to say except I understand! It's worth it though I guess to look much better with clothes on!

Would you mind posting a before pic of what your stomach looks like? my main concern with losing weight is how my stomach will look. :(

Thanks everyone for the nice comments!

Rivergirl, if you look at my profile I have albums with all my progress pictures in them. You can see in there what my stomach used to look like.

Your words are harsh. I hope you don't mean them. You have done the job of losing weight and changed what you can. Its pretty normal for women to have poochy stomaches after giving birth to children. Will the self-hatred ever end for us?

I know I've done what I can by losing weight and becoming healtheir and more fit, and most days I'm pretty happy with what I've accomplished. But some days it just really gets me down when I look at my belly skin. It's just creepy looking!

I don't know that I'll ever be able to learn to love it or anything, but I can probably learn to accept it. Especially since my fear of having surgery is WAY more than my disgust at how the skin looks.

SO I guess I just learn to accept that this is how I look now.

AND learn how to hide it! :sifone:

No offense at all I you've good with your weight loss. And I saw your before pictures, but ohmy. This scares me. o_o.

KaeBae-Don't be scared! How your tummy looks after weightloss is SO dependant on your individual body and skin...it comes down to genetics, I think. Just lose the weight and then deal with what has to be dealt with...

I have lost 74 lbs over the last nine months...and I'm given birth to four kids- including twins!! And my tummmy looks perfectly normal. Not even stretch marks! So...it's a matter of luck, I think.. Sorry you weren't so lucky, Tigpuppy. But you have done an awesome job on the weightloss and I think you are right about one thing- if you're scared of surgery, the only other option is to live with it. One thing you might think of is shapewear...like Spanx- just to hold that skin all in under your clothes. Lots of folks swear by it and I think it would be just the thing for you. Check it out online.

Best of luck!

I completely agree that it's all about genetics. But the luck of the draw did NOT give me the good skin genes. No one in my family has good skin. EVERYONE, including the guys have bad stretch marks. Some of them are from growing so fast as teens, but most are from being overweight. And the women of course have them from having children.

I am a firm believer in shapewear as well. When I read that people who have had plastic surgery have to wear supportive clothing to help their skin heal up tightly I figured I'd give it a try. So during the day I wear high wasted shorts, and I wear some sort of bra 24 hrs a day. It has helped SO MUCH with the sagging skin. While I know my skin will never look like it did pre-pregnancy, I know that there IS room for improvement.

And I am SO jealous of your great skin Rox! LUCKY YOU!!!
