The Six Pack Question

As this is my first post, hello, hi im John Dyson

I'm 5ft 10 and currently weigh 11 stone 1.0, BMi is 22.2, fat % is 15.7 (all this is according to my salter digital scales)

Now i think i've made progress - 6 or so weeks ago i was 12 stone - my goal would be 10 stone 5 but i dont believe that 10 stone 5 would bring me down to 10% body fat? where im more likely to see my 6 pack (at present i have a two pack) and i believe its all about shedding the fat before you do loads of sit ups etc?

I'm doing 30 minutes on the treadmill a day mon-fri (walking 2 miles at 4mph) & sat/sun 1hr (in two halfs) so 4-miles

My question would be how do i go about getting a 4 pack to begin with - is it a case of just continuing what I'm doing? By getting down to my target 10 stone 5 how much body fat will i have? I dont want to get into the "unhealthy" bracket. At present it appears im coming down weight but not seeing it disappearing from my stomach?

i drink loads of water throughout the day (2-3 liters)

i do feel a hell of a lot better though since coming down from 12 stone (allot lighter)

looking forward to hearing from you

If I were you, I'd kick up the cardio routine a bit by adding HIIT--it should help to melt away the stubborn pounds you may still have. Additionally, now would be a good time to start working your ab muscles so there is something to see when you're done!

Thanks for the reply
This morning i weigh 10 stone 13.6 & body %=15.5%

Are you doing any weight lifting at all??

As greenhal gal said HIIT will speed things up a little.

But i think you are going in the wrong direction 5ft 10 and 11 stone is light.

Hve yu thought about a bulking and adding more mass if you do that first when you do eventually cut you`ll look alot better when you reach your goal.

Also what is your diet like??

Just doing a little weight lifting (few lifts per arm - nothing major)
What is HIIT?
yeah 5ft 10 and 11 stone is light (i feel it - and it feel great) i just seem to still have a belly though.

I've not thought about bulking up as i've pretty much read its all about shedding the body fat from around my stomach before i see the 6 pack coming through! (the top two are there when i tense/alone with the sides showing a little rib)

My diet at the moment is: 2 weetabix and milk (its full fat, but hey) for lunch i'll have a ham & tomato sandwich, for dinner (it varies) yesterday i had two boiled eggs but usually it'll be another bowl of weetabix (i'd love steak and chips haha)

in between all the above as snacks i have grapes, pears, bananas

This sounds worrying, read the weight training 101 sticky. You need to be squatting, deadlifting, benching etc.. Isolating your arms and doing nothing else isn't gonna get you far

This sucks big time. Read the Nutrition 101 sticky. Up your calories and increase protein intake. You're not getting the abs you want because you don'y have the muscle to show. To get that muscle you need to eat more and train properly

youll need to shed a little more fat but youll need to at least do an ab routine at least once a week maybe twice to get your muscles underneath developed

Thanks for the replies - it sounds even though i've lost over a stone in weight i may have wasted my time on treadmill/diet.
I was convinced eating less/no junk food mixed with more exercise would shed the fat around my belly.:eek2:

gutted

Well, i'm back & according to the same scales i used in August 2008, im still 5ft 10 (would you believe it) and now bang on 10 stone, body fat is apparantly 10.5% according to the scales - im still walking 2,3 miles a day at speeds 4,5,6,7,8mph - still drink loads of water, 500ml of lucozade sport - i can see a 4 pack with a slight tense, no tense, no 4 pack though - the last 2 seem to be hard to get. I have to say i feel great though, sleep better and everything! I'm now probably a 32 waist jeans which is handy :)

My question is probably the same as before - Their is an ideal weight we're all supposed to be for our heights etc - im probably bang on now - but if im bang on how - how do i get the last two when they're covered by fat?

hope to hear some more replies on this journey
