The restaurant trap

I really don't like to eat out, but occasionally I get stuck at a restaurant and wonder how I can enjoy the food without feeling guilty. What are the best things to order?

Normally I like to order whatever fish they have with veggies, and usually substitute another serving of veggies for the rice. Is that a reasonable meal, or are there any hidden dangers there?

And I know the bread most places serve is a big no-no. That is proabably the biggest temptation in the world for me, but I can usually avoid it.

i try to stick to the seafood restaurants and get whatever fish poached with sides of veggies. i try to stay away from anything deep fried. you could order stir-fries as well, just tell them to hold the sauce & order rice with that. or get a grilled chicken ceasar salad minus the sauce...that's one of my favs...gawd i hate dressing.

I really avoid restraunts at all costs but if i eat out i eat a very light chicken salad or certain seafoods. The thing is even a grilled chicken can be covered in butter/oils. Same as the fish, so then i am like forget this i can have a great cheat meal i make at home for the calories in a salad out. So yeah for now while trying to eat pretty clean i just avoid the average ones and stick to healthy organic places or veggie restraunts.

However don't be afraid to ask questions and say no butter or oil, no cheese and so on. If you feel silly or think you are going to get a spit meal then just say you are allergic or are on medication (a friend of mine does this and never gets any lip or problems.)

yep, grilled/baked/broiled chicken, or a lean cut of steak (and cut any excess fat away)
get dressings/sauces on the side. try to avoid bread/rolls completely, since they are often buttered with trans fat margarine.
