From that you can see that the mind determines the input to the system which determines the metabolism of the system. Maintaining a slow metabolism results from maintaining a steady input to the system. I suggest there is a metabolism of the mind which comes first and controls the metabolism of the body. This is why you lose some weight and then go back to where you started. You may gain back more but you eventually settle at a certain weight. It all starts with the mind.
A type of understanding is first required before you can perform any maintenance. What follows is a useful definition of the 3 players in the drama of the mind.
The first one is the voice in your head that is always talking. Some call it their inner monologue some call it the thinker. It is always doing something. It helps you solve problems and make decisions. I refer to it as the human Doing since it is always doing something. It may seem out of control sometimes or even get in the way as when you become distracted. But it is only doing one thing most of the time. The one thing that the Doing does is compare.
That may sound oversimplified but it’s not. When you make a decision for action, it is the result of a comparison. A comparison was made between a choice of outcomes. Comparisons are made between yourself and others as well as various things that exist outside the mind. When you eat certain foods you know are bad, a comparison is made between eating it or not and the consequences that would follow. The Doing does do a few other things but the main aspect of its job. It is very good at this and we need it to keep this up so we can function in society. The Doing does however have one flaw. It seems to have a certain level of self preservation that tends to override what we may be trying to accomplish. This level of self preservation is responsible for any failure we suffer due to lack of willpower, motivation or determination. That may sound a little out there but you may see how this works in a minute.
The second one is entirely different. It is deep within you at the core of your existence. It is the real you. It is timeless, perfect and ageless. If this sounds hard to believe then consider this; when you experience unconditional love or true gratitude, you are living through this part of you. To say it is timeless can be seen in the definition of unconditional love. That type of love does not depend on things that happened yesterday or tomorrow in order to exist. It is something that just is. The part of you that is responsible for that type of thing does so because it does one thing. It just exists, right now and always now. I call it the human Being. Its job is to be.
The problem comes when the Doing tries to make a comparison between something and the Being. The Doing gets no feedback from the Being because the Being has no words. An example of this is that you can’t actually describe unconditional love because it is something you haven’t assigned any attributes. It just exists all the time and never changes. You may think you can talk about it but the true nature of it resides inside you in a perfect state.
The Doing sees this happen and panics due to its high degree of self preservation. If it has nothing to compare things to then it’s out of a job. So great problem solver that it is, it creates something to compare to so it can continue to exist. The construction and existence of this third and final component is the true problem of the mind.
Anything you put in your profile under the category titled about me is the entity I’m referring to here. If you look at it, you can see each point as the result of a comparison. The Doing needed a stable entity to carry out its comparison so it worked very to create this part of your mind. I call this part the Collective because it is a collection of items that form a single unit the Doing can refer back to in its work. This Collective is how you define yourself. I will give you a simple example of how this is the biggest problem of the human experience.
All diets have a section of things to avoid. We take this list and put it on the fridge or take some bold step to ensure success. I offer that you are not stupid. You do not need to read a book or have a doctor tell you what is good for you and what is bad. The thing is diets don’t have a useful section that tells you HOW to eat the things they prescribe. It is not the fault of the diet. Most of these programs are not concerned with the dynamics of the mind. It is this dynamic system that causes us to cheat on our diet and ultimately resume an unhealthy lifestyle.
What most people never consider is that there is more to not eating bad food than they have time to think about. Not eating a particular item may seem like a simple act but it is not. If it were then there would be no need for diets in the first place. Willpower may work for a while but it won’t work forever and here’s why. When you are at the point where you are contemplating eating something you know you should avoid you may think it comes down to just letting go of that item. There’s a little more to it than that. The Doing is not just comparing bad food to good, it is comparing the state of not having the food to the part of the Collective that loves and cherishes that food. So if you give up that food the Doing thinks it has to give up part of the Collective. It then convinces you that you are giving up part of yourself.
When you first read the part of a diet that shows what to avoid you do one thing. You use time. You remember what it was like to enjoy that food in the past and how it will feel not to enjoy it in the future. The act of using the Collective is already at work. It is easy to see how this dynamic is responsible for most of the actions you take.
Here is the kicker. If the Collective was created in your mind and nothing created in the mind is actually real; then most of your decisions concerning dieting are based on an illusion.
The way to fix this and to achieve permanent weight loss is to allow the Being to dictate your metabolism. Since it is ageless, timeless and perfect then you will exist in the same state. It takes a little while to do it but I did it and it’s easy.

When you get up in the morning before you do anything else, sit for a minute in a state of gratitude. Let the Being start your day before the Doing can get a chance to run your mind.
