The new layout

When viewing a thread, even on a 1024x768 screen theres a long horizontal scroll bar.... big usability problem from a design standpoint.

Oh my god its horrific, because of all the extra crap down below the normal stuff it also takes longer to load and its also impossible to find stuff.

Perhaps you should have a copy elsewhere - a dev site to test with and then ask users if they like it first.

YEah, I'm not thrilled with this layout, but I'm happy to still have the site! some of the words are in a huge font and a lot are normal.

It's great that you're trying to make things even better.

However, to read a post now I have to scroll sideways. It is even worse if I have my favourites open as was doing, in order to tailor my navigation. I preferred it when the page was narrower.

Also "go to last post" is not working in "subscribed threads". If you click on it, the next page you get is the forum index.

If you take the poll and the "tag cloud" crap and spew it all over the RIGHT side of the screen, instead of the LEFT side of the screen, it will greatly enhance the usability of the site, and the info is there for everyone who wants to use it.

Even better would be saving yourselves a ton of bandwidth by leaving that junk on the main page of the forum, or even on the first page of each section of the forum, but having ot on every page makes it look like the web designer is a kid who thinks it's "kewl".

I would suggest either explaining or getting rid of the different font sizes in the tag cloud, and you might find a shoutbox would get MUCH more use than a poll oriented for Cohens users.

No matter what else you do, please put the "new features" over to the right --->
instead of the left <---

Thanks for having a feedback section!
Keep working on new ideas, as well.

Not pleased. There's too much going on now....and most of the users on this site measure their weight in pounds---why can't the poll be KG's and LB's?

It's just really confusing.

the tag features looks like it would be cool -though i'm still trying to figure out what it does - if tagging is done correctly -i hope it'd cut down on the number of duplicate type threads.... but without an explanation of it - it makes it a little difficult to use...

I don't dislike it - when the side scrolling issue is taken care of. The page fits on my 1280 x 1024, but because it is aligned left I still have to scroll over.

I do think that the side scrolling problem is just a mistake - like the post viewing column didn't shrink to accommodate the new left side information. The large square block of grey at the top right can't be correct.

I like the concept - I've found areas of the site I had never seen before, the ads are less obtrusive, and the option for polling will be fun. It just needs a little cleaning up.

I'm an idiot....I thought at first it was just my computer being wonky. I really, really, really dislike it....did I say really?

This is now an absolutely terrifying forum format.

I am all about improvements - thank you to whoever is working on the site!

But this is awful. *grin*

i dont mind the new layout, i think the new login arrangement is awesome, now i dont have to keep resigning in and out. The wide thing is really annoying though.

hmm yeah thats lookin a little better. though i agree with qjay that the stuff over <--- there should be over ---> there so when on UserCP its a traditional 3 col layout :)

At least it's usable now, but it isn't going to be encouraging new users to keep coming if they leave the layout full of junk and have the newest topics showing up on EVERY page. Just the wasted bandwidth is annoying enough, but with Tabbed Browsing available, even from MicroShaft, there is no need to have all of that crud at the bottom of EVERY screen.
A single "What's going on?" link would do the trick, it could bring up the most recent threads in a Javascript popup, or just take the user to a new page, or even simply open a new dropdown menu with links.
What's next in "bad ideas"? Having the page refresh every minute, to show new posts? It wastes plenty of bandwidth, and you could even call it a feature... *sigh*
