The godawful "P" word!!!

PLATEAU. . .

I think I've hit one :( I weighed myself this morning and over the past 3 weeks I haven't lost any more weight. I lost 12 pounds in 6 weeks when I first started on Sept 7th adding in interval training and much smaller portions.

I do have a diary with more food entries and things but a very typical day of eating for me with a few small changes is

Breakfast: 1 slice of whole wheat toast with a little PB and a fruit or hard boiled egg
Snack: sliced turkey and wedge of cheese
Lunch: grilled chicken sandwich on wheat
Snack: cheese and a fruit
Dinner: either a small porkchop, grilled chicken or fish with veggies

I wore my heart rate monitor on one normal day for me with no workout and I only burned around 1080 calories (desk job) so I've been aiming for around 1100 calories a day and then I do cardio workouts 5 days a week and I never burn less than 450 calories at each workout.

Do I need to eat even less? Or do MORE cardio?! I usually do an hour and a half of cardio 5 days a week. I do boxing so we're hitting the heavy bag, doing push ups, jogging, jumping and sometimes we do lift weights in class.

I also do interval workouts they are each about 15 mins long and VERY high intensity.

What should I add......... take away??? I know I need to switch something up....I just don't know what.

ANY input would be appreciated :)

Thanks so much you guys!!!

It sounds to me like you are not eating enough. 1200 cals is the very minimum a woman should be consuming...and your exercising alot as well. I suggest upping your cals some.

I still haven't lost any more weight...I threw in 2 new workouts, one was a jump rope interval workout for 30 mins and I did a Brazil Butt Lift DVD as well.....

still nothing.... I guess I'll up my calories??

This totally bites

Tried another jump rope interval workout..... just trying to shock my body a bit... as far as I know still no new weight loss...

Anyone have any suggestions?

Do you take measurements and have those not gone down either?
You may have mentioned this but do you drink lots of water? If you are eating a lot of salt that would help flush it out and maybe the scale would go down.
I'm sure a whoosh is sure to happen soon if you keep everything up - try to have a perfect day - very healthy balanced eating (within your calorie range of couse), good amount of exercise, lots of water and see what the scale says the next morning.
I know when I got into the 140's I had to work extra hard - exercise morning and night (because I have a desk job I'm not active at all) and be strict with my calories - throughout the whole week - not just weekdays and I still only lost 1 pound a week. Some weeks I wouldn't lose anything and then some weeks I would lose 1.5 pounds.
This is just my experience and I'm trying to get back there so I'm doing it again...

Hey there, I haven't taken measurements...I always have a hard time making sure I'm measuring the same exact spots...I have taken some before pictures from about 3 weeks ago that I'll check out and compare tonight.
My clothes seem to the fitting the same over the last 3 weeks though, nothing is getting looser.
I do drink a ton of water.....I have a desk job as well and I always have 1 glass of green tea and one water at my desk that I keep refilling and drinking throughout the day.

I have been allowing myself peice of chocolate here or a bite or two of bread with butter there.....I'm going to completly cut everything like that out like you said and be EXTREMELY strict with myself.

I've been on point with my calories and not going over.....also doing my workouts.

you're probably right...I must be snacking too much or going over my calories somehow...I'm just so good at counting them.....

It's so frustrating.... I'll be way more strict for a few days and see if that does anything

Hey there, I haven't taken measurements...I always have a hard time making sure I'm measuring the same exact spots...
I measure the biggest part around my chest, then my natural waist which is if you stand tall and lean over the part where your waist bends, then right at my belly button, and then the biggest part around my butt. I would suggest trying those spots because even if your clothes don't feel any looser your natural waist might have gone down a whole inch - sometimes it takes 10-15 pounds to notice it in your clothes but seeing the inches - even a quater here and there will help.

I do this too! I have a few hours left in the day and I'm on my 4th glass of water and 3rd glass of green tea!

I have been allowing myself peice of chocolate here or a bite or two of bread with butter there.....I'm going to completly cut everything like that out like you said and be EXTREMELY strict with myself.
I would try that and see if it helps - I understand the whole calorie in vs. calorie out theroy but sometimes we need to look at things like fiber and sugar and see how they affect us because everyone is different.

It's so frustrating.... I'll be way more strict for a few days and see if that does anything
I totally agree it's frustrating and what works for one person might not work for another so sometimes it takes some trail and error.

Best of luck and I look forward to hearing how you make out! You've done so well so far so don't get discouraged and keep it up!! It will come off soon!!

Thank you so much for your advice!! Sometimes it just takes a word from someone else to push you in the right direction.

Your input was really helpful to me!! I think I'll do what you say and take my measurments tonight...it can't hurt.

Thanks again! I won't give up, I'll keep pushing :)

Hi Jenifer,

I know exactly what you are going through as well!

I started my diet on 8/4 and lost 20 pounds in about 4 weeks ( I was very excited)... and then had a net loss of 0 pounds, in 4 more weeks!! Doing the SAME thing, and working out MORE!... It was really frustrating to say the least. I knew I was flat, but also knew it would not last forever. It took a good 4 weeks, 3 days, but once I broke through the slump, I lost another 10 pounds in 2.5 weeks... I leveled out again @ 190 (30 pounds down), and now as of today I am at 180... so a couple slumps along the way.

I have tried to change things up, the best I can, but it's tough to find other things to eat while dieting. I am doing the south beach diet, so I went back into the recipe book, and looked for more and more to eat, but I think it's just time. The good news, is that although I was flat for almost 5 weeks, my clothes fit MUCH better at the end of the five weeks, than at the start, even though I was the same weight! (strange eh?)... are you finding this to be the case?

Keep plugging away, and don't over-increase your workout. It may just serve to burn you out. I even added a couple days off (ghasp) to my daily work out haha... and like everyone says, you lose weight after rest days... it's crazy, but it seemed to work. Good luck, keep fighting the good fight.

My clothes got really loose after the first 6 weeks and now they have been feeling the same since my plateau.

I'm hoping the weight will start coming off again soon...I feel like all the work was for nothing.

But I won't give up, I'm going to the gym again tonight
