tHE FIGHT CLUB

Guys...do u remember Brad Pitt in the movie Fight Club?? Well I want to achieve a similar kind of abs. Completely flat.
So I tried with months of crunches (3-4 times per week) well executed 20-25 rips. Result...just my abs were a bit swollen dunno like my rectus came up,especially underneath my chest.
Then I stopped with abs and now the situation is normalised...just I dont understand why only my "upper" abs are visible and not the others. I ve not fat at all in that area...I weight72kg and 184cm height...any suggestions...??
forgot I play football so I dont want to be too big just gain some muscles and define my abs...
Sorry for my slacky english..I m italian...crap!

...just inverse crunches sometimes...but the thing is that I ve learned that abs actually is one muscle so is the same if doing sit ups or inverse crunches...
should I train also my obliques? how since I work at home? cheers

You need to work your whole body. Diet is more important than anything for abs, as you need to reduce body fat %. There was a thread on weight training without weights, do a search for that phrase.

Diet is key. Also a full body routine. Also cardio. But don't foget about genetics too. They play a LARGE role in the type of abs we can achieve.

Don't forget to work your transverse abdominals. They work to keep everything "pulled in" also they are very important for supporting your body so you lift heavier. Good for transverse abdominals are planks on your forearm, feet on a physioball, hands on a bosu, one leg, one arm....many ways to mix it up.

Mmm....Brad Pitt. If anyone has seen Thelma and Louis, there are a series of GREAT shots of his abs, and another anatomical parts. I say again, Mmm....

OMG yes! Don't EVEN get me started on that movie, with all those half-open robes...*drool*. And his hair was SO cute, with those long golden waves. His armour REALLY emphasized his physique. Can you believe he's + 40? I'VE never seen any +40 that hot; I've never seen ANYONE that hot. Except for maybe Hugh Jackman, who is built too, but not as much as Brad.

Right on, LV. I don't understand why everyone drools over Pitt in Fight Club...he had abs because he was skinny and had little muscle. He looks so much better in Troy.

thanks to everybody..even though my point wasn t on " How hot is Pitt!!" but on "how to work out same kind of abdom"...exercises or only diet withouth carb? how can an italian live without pasta and bread?? crap! Would anyone suggest the right diet for abs?

You can still eat carbs. Just try to keep them in moderation. I would suggest about 20-30% of your calories from fat, no more than 40% carbs, and at least 30% of your calories coming from protein. Try to limit your carbs at night if you're more sedentary then.

If you can eat whole wheat bread instead of white that would be good and whole wheat pasta is better than white pasta as well. However, anything in moderation is just fine!

Lower your body fat. Period.

Upper abs show, because the fat tends to stay more in lower ab region. Your upper abs attach on top of your rib cage and will show more there, because they are pushed out by the bone.

Working your abs harder will not make a bit of difference. It is all in the BF.

Stop eating ALL trans fats, drink more water, eat smaller, healthier meals more often and don't drink soda and/or beer.

And, like P Dr. said, "Work your T.A." Try doing stomach vacuums twice a week.

Thanks a lot guys..I ll try that way..even though I still don t understand...I m slim...if I also start following a diet I ll become too slim...:) ...plus...I ve always been practicing sports... but also when I was younger and even thinner, no abs(apart from the "upper ones")...well,I m sure u guys know better than me how to achieve this results...
Just..could some squat help my muscle become stronger even in my mid-section? And should I train a bit also the obliques? If u take a look to Pitt s abs they are really flat...what do u reckon?

normally, i had opened the same kind of topic once upon a time in here :), and the guys who suggests say the truths. The most important thing is to lower the fat as much as possible. if you looked at to him carefully, you will see that there is not any fat on his body in the film. But the work conditions of the hollywood stars are different from those who tries to do something by their own possibilities. Normally, they use some kind of pills and even sometimes surgeon operations to make their body perfect(of course they work out too but they have a special training coach to help them) so Brad is one of them too :). And also you need to use special Protein powders. One of my friend who is a body builder said that if you want to have a body like Brad's, you need to use these kinds of powders so much because sometimes only eating wouldn't be enough. and i think he says the truth. And also the numbers are important the weights. so when you do exercises, do it with a lighter power, but do it many times. I also had a special programme from one of the coaches in switzerland. In future i can share it with you too.

Thanks mate...I appreciate that..I d love to try to follow a good training programme...post it when u got a chance....cheers!

By the way..yeah I think u right about Pitt..and I know that actors and Tv stars are not a good example coz they work because of their image so they work with personal trainers and all that stuff...not for commonm people with other problems to deal with :)

...Just one thing..so do u reckon that is better a lighter weight and more rips and not the contrary?

There's also no water weight on him. Old body builder's trick.

When you get down to like 8%-10% BF and your abs are looking good, take some diuretic pills and you will pee mucho water out. For the next day or two you will be sick defined.

One question..while doin stomach vacuum...what is the exact procedure..

Inhale
Exhale while contracting and suckin in your stomach
keep the position and do not breath for a few secs

Inhale

is that correct? can I do it as many times per week as I want?
