The Diary of a Determined Woman!

Well, first let me tell you a little about myself. I spent most of my Iife slender, but since having my son, things haven't been the same physically lol. I now weigh 215 pounds and want to get back down to 175. I was 175 when I got married. I am tall so I look pretty slender at that weight.

I did Atkins soon after I gave birth and got down to 180 but I didn't maintain. My own fault, started eating junk again and in large quantities. My mom was always obese and is only now only chubby after having lap band surgery. I do not want the same fate. Growing up, she looked at my father and I from the side lines because she hated how she looked.

My husband is thin and handsome and fell in love with a slender girl. When I met him, I was 155. Maybe 160 will be a very long term goal. He deserves to still see the resemblance of the Kristen from 2002.

I love clothes and work in an administrative nursing position where I need to dress up every day. It is no fun dressing a fat body!

I want to have one more child but won't consider it until I get down to 175. Hopefully this will happen before I turn 32 on October 13. The old biological clock is ticking away.

Stumbled across this sight and I quit all social media over the last 6 months. Too much drama and fake people. I wanted to see my life and accomplishments clearly without the haze of Facebook likes, comments, and the need to document every step, food, and location.

Thank you for any and all support and advice!

Kristen

Hey, glad to see you started a diary. Sounds like we have several things in common.. weights, goals, moms having weight loss surgery. I, however, am not giving up facebook. haha! Good luck on your weight loss journey! :)

Welcome Kristen!!! It's important to have a plan to achieve your goal. A plan that includes exercise and a nutritional plan is most effective. It needs to be consistent, doable, reasonable, and also have flexibility so that you can stick with it long-term. This isn't a race, so steady over time gets results.

Have you given thought to a structured plan? Do you have any tools to help you execute your plan?

Basically, 1 pound = 3500 calories. To lose weight you have to burn more calories than you consume. When that deficit reaches 3500 calories you have lost a pound (realistically it isn't a linear relationship, but over time the plateaus and drops pretty much average out to this result).

You need to know your basal metabolic rate. This is the number of calories your body needs to exist. You need to know how many you are consuming.

Basal metabolic rate calculator. Lots of these on the internet. Google it, enter your stats, and know your BMR. It changes as you lose weight.

Calorie intake Apps. Lots of free apps to help you know how much you're consuming. I use "Lose It". Very easy to use and it's free. I use it daily. You can scan bar codes and they have a huge database to search anything. I set up my daily budget at 1500 calories and can easily tell where I'm at anytime.

Exercise. You will create more of a caloric deficit with regular exercise. It doesn't have to be exhausting and hours, just consistent. I chose biking. I used to run, but my knees, feet, back, hip can't take that anymore. I enjoy biking and look forward to it. I use a free app called "mapmyrun" to track my exercise and calculate time, distance, and calories burned.

So, these are some tools to help you develop, execute, and track your plan. It's really a matter of math. More out than in consistently over time.

Welcome and hang in there!!!

Ugh!

How's the first week (since you've been here anyway) been going for you?

Well, first all thanks for asking! I didn't do consistently well. I gave in to peer pressure and drank Starbucks and ate desserts over the weekend. I suck! I used to not be so tempted. What happened? Ughhhh :banghead:

It's okay, you don't have to entirely give those things up. Just has to be in moderation and willing to work some extra calories off! First week can be rough, you'll find and settle into a grove and start kicking some ass. Don't let one minor set back derail you. You got this!
