The desire to wear a singlet on Christmas morning

Ok, so I realise a number of you here would be American? Haven't looked too hard into this but I feel I'm probably one of a select few of Aussie's here who get to enjoy the pleasure that is Christmas happening in Summer time.

Though, I wouldn't put it past Melbourne, Australia (where I live) to have a cold and crappy day on Christmas but nevertheless, it's the goal and desire to which I want to achieve!

I also apologise if the fact I use the metric system makes it hard for some!

This goal involves me being able to wake up Christmas morning, chuck on a singlet to wear and feel confident in looking good doing it. This means no buldging gut and rather toned and defined arms.

A little bit of history:

Christmas 2007 had zero fitness and weighed 102.5kgs.

Not until February did I decide to pursue something after a good mate of mine had already lost around 15kgs since around November 2007.. this motivated me to give it a shot. I signed up with a Gym and have been going steadily ever since.

Yesterday I weighed in at 86.9kgs - a loss of 15.6kgs - which whilst I'm happy with and have had plenty of compliments - is still another 10kgs away from my ultimate goal (or so I believe... when I get there maybe I will reass how much more needs to go!)

My fitness has gone from being able to do practically nothing, to regular walks of 6.5kms and 500 vertical metres on a treadmill (which burns around 800 calories in an hour session). I don't jog a lot but am working up to it.. can currently maintain a jogging pace (8kph) for around 15 minutes and hope to get better at it for the intensity side of things.

I have also recently gotten into weight training as it is part of my goal. I had my personal trainer set out a 2 day split which I complete twice a week with my good mate who I train with every morning from 6am onwards before work. In the evenings I head to the gym to get out a cardio session!

In terms of eating, it's a bit of a problem. I'm always tempted for bad things because that's what I'm used to. I don't enjoy a lot of foods and almost despise most vegetables and seem to avoid them quite often :( I try to broaden my horizons as far as food goes but it is a very very slow process.

I take protein and have been lookin' into more supplements to take to help me along the process.

Mainly I have a gut that I want to get rid of as I am mostly happy with the rest of my body.

Umm... not too sure what else to include here as I'm only knew, but there's a bit of a background on me!

OH sorry about my post in your other thread the other day, I was tired and didn't look but today I realize you'd already made a diary at the same time. There's alot of Americans in the forum but also alot of people from other countries as well...not sure how many Aussies :) But we see the metric system pop up alot. Although I don't know what a singlet is? lol

Looks like you're doing great on everything already. Glad you found you're way to the forum and good luck ~Lisa

Hey im from Australia!

We haven't had decent weather on Christmas day for sooooooo long! So im praying for a nice 30 degree day this year!

Well done on your weight loss so far and good luck with your journey!

Hey thanks for the welcome.

Singlet... how do you not know what that is? I have to figure out what they call them in the States hah!

From the Gold Coast I see, I lived up there for 2 years from 04-06 and am now back in Melbourne.

This week I got to my lowest weight of 86.7 despite not eating that well and not doing a massive amount of cardio work.

Have tried to keep eating to "light" things this week and weight has fluctuated from 86.7 to around 88 even... just waiting to see how the next week goes because as of tomorrow morning I'll be back into trying to get out 6km walks each day as well as my weight training in the morning!

Thanks.

I'm just trying to work on what the best 5 day diet will be for me... so hard when I don't much like to cook or spend much on groceries, hah!

I'm going to be doing the hundredpushups thing too... did my initial test today and did 22 straight pushups which I was happy with!

Ok so I'd like a little help here on whether or not my week is good or bad, or what changes can be made.

Diet:

* Breakfast @ 8am: Cornthins + vegemite + cheese + multi vitamin tablet
9:30am - Muesli bar (142 calories) + protein shake
10:30am - Apple
Lunch at 12-12:30 - Wraps with tuna + cheese + light mayo (checked the mayo didn't look too bad.)
After lunch a Mandarin orange
2:30 - Yoghurt (vaalia low fat with antioxidants) + protein shake
Dinner at around 8ish -

Dinner seems to change.. varies from chicken + salad, to even pastas and stuff. I'm not very inventive so it's difficult. Nor am I the greatest cook.

In terms of exercise, the week looks like this:

Monday 6am - Day one weight split
Monday 7pm - Cardio (30-60 minutes of walking on incline followed by abs circuit, abs/obleques/pushups/bridge those sort of things)
Tuesday 6am - Day two weight split
Tuesday 7pm - Cardio as above
Wednesday - no gym at all, rest day
Thursday 6am - Day one weight split
Thursday - Cardio
Friday 6am - Day two weight split
Sunday 11:30am - Cardio

Can anyone offer any advice to me?

I've lost around 33lbs and want to lose an other 20 or so but at the same time I want to beef my arms/upper body up for summer too.

Other than the multivitamins and the protein I don't take any supplements.. would it be worth taking anything? Or is my schedule enough? Or should I be working harder?

Hey thanks for the welcome.

Singlet... how do you not know what that is? I have to figure out what they call them in the States hah!

I just kept seeing singlet and thinking "onesie"....which is a babies little shirt that snaps on the bottom :X Funny all the different terms different places have for stuff, lol. I googled it and like Austin said it says a mens undershirt so I guess tank or undershirt? If its what I'm thinking though we also have a more offensive term for them "wife beaters" :X

So how's it going adding some variety in on the food? From what you've posted it looks like you're doing great.

Yeah I'm definitely adding different things here and there... Dinner still seems to be the biggest problem I'd say, though both nights this week I have achieved eating steamed veggies. Go me! Haha...

Funny that the term 'wife beater' actually means the same thing in Aussie, maybe we'll have to relate on that term!

Had to get up this morning, woke up at about 4:51. Precisely 9 minutes before 5am and because the snooze button goes for 9 minutes on my mobile phone. 1 snooze before getting up to consume the apple that my buddy Glen (who is almost a fully qualified personal trainer) had told me to do. After that, did a few things, had a small rest again to kill time then headed to the gym at 6. Warmed up with a 3 minute cable row then jumped over to the treadmills to do a bit of intervals. I'm not 100% fit yet, I was on there for half an hour with an average work speed of 10kph and rest of at 5.8. I didn't manage to get the whole program out entirely, but did last until the 30 minute mark just using slower speeds.

Work throughout the day, then I will possibly go to the gym after work depending on how I feel. I've also got options socially tonight so I don't want to kill all of it.

Meal plan today:
5am - apple 72cal
7:15 - 4x weetbix table spoon of honey, low fat milk 312 cal
10am - k-time twist bar strawberry and raspberry 123 cal
12-12:30 - left over beef mince chow mein from dinner last night. 690cal
2:30 - apple 72cal
6:15 - snack - up'n'go energize - 300cal
dinner - not too sure yet!

total 1570 calories without dinner included yet.
around 320 calories burnt via exercise in the morning.
