The Bit After The Beginning

I've been working out for about 9 months now and made great progress so far but I've come across a serious problem for the first time. I think this is just signalling the end of my weight lifting honeymoon period and I'm gonna have to give it more serious planning and thought from now on.

Basically my situation is that due to family commitments I can only go to the gym for 4 days a week (Tuesday - Friday) so I split my workout between upperbody one day then lower the next for 4 days.
Up until now the 48 hour rest period for my muscles has been enough but recently I've noticed that I've started to need about 72 hours to recover properly. This will totally screw my routine and result in me losing a day at the gym unless I can work round this

First of all, is it usual for the rest period needed to increase as you get stronger?

And secondly, are there any other ways of spliting an upper body workout over 2 days so I can target front and back for example? It seems that both front and back routines will use my arms which I don't want to overtrain.

Would it be advisable to cut out all isolation work on arms to enable them to assist with chest and back work over 2 days?

And finally, is there anything legal that can increase muscle recovery time?

Many thanks

Creatine is the only supp I take. It'd be a shame to have to drop the isolation stuff though, it's been fantastic for my triceps. Looks like it might be needed though :(
