I've been struggling with getting motivated to lose weight. There always seemed to be an excuse to put it off till another Monday. The question I had to answer was "What would get me started TODAY?" I came up with The Biggest Loser Home Challenge right before the new season began on January 5th. I'm competing against the contestants on The Biggest Loser from my home and blogging about it at the following address: xxxxxxxxxxxxxx

The blog's an honest look at my weight loss journey as I compete with the contestants on the Biggest Loser ranch. It's not pretty but it's pretty funny! You can subscribe, leave comments and keep up with my progress at the blog address. xxxxxxxxxxxxxx

My only comment is that I don't think you're being very healthy by keeping your caloric intake below 1200.

The minimum should be 1200, and I think for your size, you're stretching it.

My only concern is that in a moment of weakness, you might binge because you're not consuming enough for your activity level.

My other concern with so much exercise is that you might injure yourself, especially if you have gone from not doing any exercise to suddenly exercising 2 hours a day (that's what it sounds like from your blog). I would caution you to be careful, because it will be difficult if you injure yourself to get back on track.

Lastly, losing 8 lbs in one week at the start of your program might be okay, but once again, I would caution you at thinking that TBL or this type of weight loss is "normal" -- it's not. And you may find your weight loss to get less and less.

A healthy weight loss is anywhere between 0.5 - 2 lbs per week, not 8 lbs per week.

Good luck.

In my honest and humble opinion, shows like TBL should be seen as something to inspire you and motivate you to change your life, however the methods used are monumentally difficult to maintain long-term and without guidance from trainers, nutritionists, and a slew of other professionals. Not to mention these people make losing weight their lives for several months, working out 6 to 8 hours a day for months. It is not something that is maintainable for someone who works a full-time job and has other obligations to their families and friends.

This type of program will always help you to loose your weight so that you can stay fit and fine.

I will be very happy to hear that there is still some awareness among the people and it is very good to know.

Thanks!

I just watched this weekend a Discovery Healthy program about..I think it was the first winner..who gained all his weight back.

Think about it for a minute. Most of these people are really just doing a high power boot camp. While there are words about changing lifestyle, they aren't actually doing it on their own. Let me restate that.. they are not the ones initiating the changes. They have everything pretty much done for them and when they get home, it's like shoving a baby chick out of the nest hoping they can fly before bouncing on the ground. I bet the majority of the players actually gain back.

Use it for modivation and entertainment..not for a realistic program. As said before 1-2 pounds is the norm. Now, for me, 6 isn't that unusual cause of my current weight (part of the reason they lose so much weight as well).

Course there is also people here doing their own TBL contest and maybe you should join us than having us come to you :)

I remember the episode before the last one Jillian was talking about their methods..she basically said this is the end of the line, the very last chance for these people. Extreme circumstances call for extreme changes but these people also have doctors and nutritionists standing by 24/7..

That is just hype. It isn't their last chance, but it is a good chance..it's just not a ordinary person's chance.

I've had some concerns posted about my calorie counts and I wanted to let everyone know I am sticking to the 1200 calories pretty closely. In the beginning there were a few days below that number but I know that it's not healthy so I'm very careful with that. To WineDeer in particular, thank you for your concern and support. I have consulted my doctor and I'm checking in with other fitness professionals as well as my body to make sure I don't get injured! Right now I'm recovering from the cold/flu bug going around but I will be back at it soon. Good luck to everyone here in their journey, wherever it may take you!
