The "Big Girl" (no more!)

I've always been a big girl, in stature, bone structure, all that stuff, but I've also always been overweight since I was about 10 or so.. I did get on an eating and exercise kick in high school, but I didn't stick with the eating healthy part, but I have been lifting weights off and on since then, it's something I've always loved..

I got divorced in '07 and once I was free from that, I started back on working out alot.. And so far I've done pretty well.. but I wasn't eating healthy and was struggling to maintain at 195lbs. I decided now to just say "Let's do this!" and go all out with eating correctly, and exercising. So far, so good. Since joining here, I've gone from 195lbs to 188lbs.

I'm pretty sure that in the next few months, I'll be down to my goal weight, and then from there, I can re-evaluate where I want to go from there.

:waving:Hi, Amy! Welcome to your journal. CONGRATULATIONS ON YOUR WEIGHT LOSS SO FAR! You are doing great, sister! You have definitely come to the right place for advice and encouragement. Post some pics of yourself to help inspire yourself (and others) along the way!

Best wishes on your journey! YOU CAN DO THIS!

Cheers,
ABBA

So, I'm chilling at 188, but that's a great thing, mostly because I'm in the process of moving in with my boyfriend and haven't let his shitty habits screw me up.
Next up is getting my elliptical at his house, or selling it and getting a gym membership.

I was tempted at one point to get a trainer, but my boyfriend's best friend is a personal trainer and he says I'm doing great, EXCEPT for the fact that I'm not doing enough cardio AT ALL. I hate cardio.

I am really trying to figure out a way to do cardio that is FUN. Anyone got any ideas??

Still doing good with the diet.. I've been taking my dog for a walk just about every day too..
Yesterday I ate:

Totals of 1553 calories 38 grams of fat, 227 grams of carbs, 65 grams of protein..

I think keeping my food intake at around 1500 to 1700 calories and anything less than 60 grams of fat. Do you guys think that that would be good?

I think today after work I'm going to hit up Wal-mart to get a scale and a measuring tape since I don't have them at my new place. I'll also try and get my "mid-way" pictures taken by my boyfriend.

I have to admit I'm a little sad about this forum. I joined here to get some more motivation and support, but I don't seem to be getting any kind of feedback or anything.

I think your goal of no more than 60 g of fat is acceptable if you are eating around the 1700 calorie mark. At 1700 calories, 60 g of fat is approximately 30% of calories from fat. You don't want to go much above that. Personally, I am shooting for about 20% calories from fat.

60 g * 9 = 540 fat calories / 1700 calories = .318

If you're eating less than 1700 I would drop the fat down accordingly to around 50 g. Just make sure that's good fat! ;-)

Looks like you're doing very well! There's nothing quite like watching the weight melt off. Congrats on the losses and keep up the good work!

Weighed in this morning at 183!! I'm so proud of myself,.. and I am pretty much 100% sure I'm going to meet my goal of 168lbs by July 30th 2008!

I've noticed that my clothes are fitting better, I'm sleeping better, and I'm not getting ill as easily as when I was heavier. The only problem that I see is that I'm bruising an awful lot and relatively easily. I am wondering if I supplement with some kind of vitamin if that would help?

Weighed in this morning at 180lbs!!! Woo hoo!!! I'm so proud of myself. I can't believe how well I'm doing.. I thought that trying to lose weight and being on my own would be more difficult because I wouldn't have to "answer" to anyone about what I'm eating, but as a matter of fact, it's easier because I am the one who buys the food, and I never buy anything that's too horrible.

Congrats again! You're cruising along nicely to that goal of yours. That's fantastic. Keep up the good work and keep us updated!

CONGRATS Fallan!!!!!!

I've only just read your diary, but I am so excited to hear that it's working for you!!! And now i'm going catch up on all of your previous posts:

In relation to fun cardio, I believe it's an oxymoron (I'm not a cardio person either). The trick to this, I've found, is to just start doing it. Then after about a week or so, you'll actually want to do it and you'll love doing it!! Otherwise, just think outside the box. Taking your dog for a walk every day is a good start! If he's anything like my dog, then he'll drag you around the neighbourhood!! Try and run with him! You might only get to do short bursts of 30-60s at first, but pretty soon you'll be racing each other like there's no tomorrow!

Team sports are a great way to get the cardio workout you need. Try and get some friends together for indoor soccer or netball (some of the best cardio workouts ever)- indoor sports are good too as most places will do mixed sports so you can you bf and his friends in on it too!!

Hope you come up with some stuff!! Maybe you've got some stuff already? What are you doing atm?

Good luck and keep on keeping on!!!! Youre doing FANTASTIC!!!!!
