The 6 Snacks You Should Eat Every Day (Article)...

Even though I don't disagree with everything that the author of the article says in some of his books, I think the article that Chef posted is good in the sense that it will open some people's eyes to some of the 'better' choices out there in terms of snack foods. The one that really throws me off is the comparison of almonds to m&m's. I get that they are both snacks, but at least compare different types of nuts or something? Anyway.... some people are going to snack, so although fruits and veggies might be healthier than some of the things in the article (such as pretzels, spelt or not), at least it can point some people in a slightly better direction and introduce them to new foods.

And it makes things bloody difficult, at least for me. I'm either over-eating, or not eating enough, neither of which is a good thing. Argh!!!

I agree San. I didn't get fat by loving salads too much, or by eating too many apples. For some reason, I crave and love all of the unhealthy stuff. 90% of the time I have to force myself to eat foods that are healthy for my body, and it's hard! I would much rather have something else, but I make a conscience efforts to pick veggies / fruits / lean protein / fiber / etc...

However, I have to reward myself every once-in-a-while and have something that I am truly craving. If not, I would not succeed on a daily basis - the urges would be unbearable! My weekly cheat meal gets me though another 7 days of healthy eating! Thinking about my upcoming cheat meal keeps me strong today and forces me to choose the veggies.

I know it's not the best mindset, but I've been eating / loving unhealthy foods my entire life. My body LOVES sugar and will probably crave it for several years after I lose the weight. I can't WISH to like healthy food and make it so... it doesn't work that way. Life would be so much easier if I woke up in the morning craving some lettuce - but that is not my reality, or the reality for many overweight people.
