my wife and I have the same quandary; how to lose fat in specific places?

For her, it's her arms or "sails" as she likes to call it. You know the fat that hangs off your arms? Yeah, that.

Me, it's more of a private thing that I'm guessing sit-ups would help with (if you follow my meaning).

Are there exercises to help out with these areas?
 
You can't target fat loss. All you can do is lose weight and let your body take it from where it takes it. Eventually it all evens out.
 
Each of us has a genetic map so to speak where weight comes on and off. It goes on in one order, off in the opposite. That is why you hear people say they 'always had a gut' or something cause it was likely the first place it went on.
 
If you're very lean trying to get leaner, there are some "tricks" to influence fat oxidation at problem spots. I have a feeling most people don't fall into this camp though and trying "advanced techniques" before they're requires can serve to be counterproductive, actually.

I wonder if my insurance would cover lipo there because it interferes with my ability to pee straight.
