Hey,

Has anyone heard of the program Take Shape for Life? My friend started working with a weight loss coach, Atieno Bird, and got hooked on this program. I saw my friend the other day and she looks great! I think I might join the program as well. I have been wanting to shed some pounds myself. My friend recommended that I work with with her coach as well for motivation and just to have someone to talk to when I have doubts or questions. I am excited to see the change. If anyone is interested, let me know and I can give you Atieno's information.

Is this the thing with the medifast meals? Because if it is it is total crap. There is a guy on here who is 295 pounds and is eating 900 calories a day on that stupid plan. The best way to lose weight is cut out the junk, up the good for you stuff, know when enough food is enough, and count your calories and move more...

Well of course it worked for your friend, she is starving her body. When I was on the edge of an eating disorder I was eating 500-700 calories a day and of course I lose weight, that does not mean it is healthy nor recommended. There are many people who do it and I am sure that all of them that eat the stuff they are told to are going to lose weight, that is purely due to the fact that they are not eating enough.

Hey Laura. Im getting Take Shape for Life as well. Its a sure-fire way to lose fat and weight fast in a healthy way. My teacher used the diet and is living proof that it really works! Her transformation was amazing. The diet is by no means a way of starving the body at all so dont listen to people that 1). Have never tried it and 2). Know nothing about it. :) They talk with no facts lol I would reccomend getting the diet. My teacher says she "swears by it" and that it really works, plus I watched her transformation. Good luck with the diet!! I know you'll get the results you're looking for. And so will I :)

WOW! Talk about trolling, it is not healthy, and anyone to believe so is an imbecile. Yeah, you lose weight fat AND muscle, I mean you're sitting there starving your body. Of course you will lose weight on it, no denying it, but at a price. You can easily hurt your heart, brain, eyes, etc basically any muscle..

"Malnutrition and Dehydration
# One of the dangers of any dietary plan, especially those that severely restrict caloric intake, is malnutrition. Considerable care must be taken to ensure that you get all the vitamins and minerals your body requires despite eating less; for this reason the Medifast diet is very carefully engineered and should be followed precisely. Skipping any of the plan's supplements could rob your body of important nutrients and lead to deficiencies or illness. Also, the natural process of removing excess sugar from the body can lead to dehydration, so it is important to maintain a healthy intake of liquids to ensure a proper fluid balance.
Other Health Issues

Another area of concern is for those dieters with serious medical concerns, such as heart conditions, diabetes or other diseases. While Medifast is generally recognized as a safe dietary plan, if you have any health concerns check with your doctor before adopting the plan. You should also go for regular checkups as you diet, to ensure that your body is getting what it needs to remain healthy."

AND Some more dangers of low calorie diets, like "Take Shape For Life"

" * Damage to your metabolism - If too little calories are consumed suddenly, your metabolism may slow down and if this behavior is repeated for an extended period of time, it may increase the chances that you gain back all the weight after the diet is over.
* Dehydration - As most of your weight loss stems from water loss, you can easily become dehydrated. To avoid this, take in lots of fluids during your diet
* Fatigue and malnutrition - Consuming little (or less than before) calories can cause you to become tired easily. To avoid this, don't exercise too hard during your diet
* Learning of yo-yo diet behaviors and unhealthy principals - If you follow fad diets or any diet in general, there is a chance that you may learn unhealthy eating habit or that you may fall in the yo-yo diet trap. To avoid this, don't diet too long."

Whoa Whoa Whoa!!!!! Hold on everybody, I think there are a lot of people on this thread that are either confused about this program or are very misinformed, or both. I have have been a personal trainer and nutritionist for the past 7 years and I am a take shape for life health coach myself. My wife is also a nutritionist and health coach and my father who has been a physician for the past 20 years is a health coach as well. We have all helped many people from all over the country lose weight safey and keep it off for years.

I would like to explain this program for everyone so you all have the correct information, as well as answer any questions or concerns anyone may have.

First off I would like to address the commentfrom Shawnnam that says that this program is not healthy or recommended. Take Shape For Life is actually the #1 medically recommend weight loss program in the country and has been recommended by over 20,000 doctors.

Another very important bit of information is that take shape for life is not a weight loss program, it is a health program. Weight loss is just the first part of the overall health program. The purpose and goal of the program is not only to help people lose weight, but to help create life long health.

Basically what we do as health coaches with this program is use portion controlled meal replacements to help you lose weight, which has actually been proven to be the best way to lose weight. Every meal is perfectly balanced with the correct ratios of protein, fats, carbs, and calories. There are over 75 different foods to choose from like soups, puddings, shakes, bars, pretzels, cheeto puffs, oatmeal, fruit drinks, iced tes, hot chocolate, cappaccinos, scrambled eggs, and even brownies! Each food has the exact same nutritional make up so you can choose any of them to eat. By having each meal perfectly balanced like this, it keeps your blood sugar and insulin levels stable which prevents cravings so it's really easy to stick to the program, plus all the food actually tastes really good too which helps a lot!! You eat every 2-3 hours, 5 of these meal replacements and 1 what we call "lean and green" meal that you prepare yourself. By eating portion contolled meals every couple hours, it will put your body in a constant state of fat burning. When people eat the typical 3 meals a day spaced 5-6 hours apart, your body goes into more of a storage mode and holds on to fat.

As far as the concern about the number of calories on this plan, allow me to explain. The 800-1000 calories is just the basic plan or starting point. That's part of what we do as coaches, we will start you out in the 800-1000 calorie range and then we will work with you to adjust that if we need to. To be honest though, that's about the perfect range for most people beause with the meals being balanced correctly with protein, fats, and carbs, you're giving your body exactly what it needs of each nutrient, no more no less. With something like weight watchers or another diet plan where you're not balancing your nutrients, you could be consuming too much protein and not enough carbs, or too many carbs and not enough protein, either of which is not as beneficial for losing weight. The thing I do like about this type of diet is that it does control calories, the only problem is it's up to you to portion out your meals to stay in the correct calorie zone, which a lot of people end up not doing. The other problem is that it gives people a little too much freedom. You can eat anything you want as long as you stay in your calorie range or "points" limit, but there can be a few issues with that. Simply choosing a certain sized portion of anything that is not balanced in protein, carbs, and fats can cause very different effects. For example, if you eat 150 calories all from protein, or 150 calories all from carbs, or 150 calories all from fat, your're going to have 3 totally different effects which can drastically change how much or how little weight you are losing. The other big issue with weight watchers is that by not having balanced ratios of protein, fats, and carbs your blood sugar and insulin levels will be going up and down which can cause hunger and cravings which makes it difficult to stick to the plan. That's what we really like about what we do is that all the food is balanced in the correct ratios so your blood sugar and insulin levels will stay stable all day so you're not hungry and don't have those cravings which makes it much easier to stick to the plan. Plus, with all the meals being portioned out for you, it is very convenient and much less time consuming which also makes it easier to stick to it. The reason why some other diets allow more around the range of 1,200-1,500 calories a day, or 12-15 points, is because that gives you a better chance of getting enough nutrients because you are consuming more food. By limiting your calories to 800-1,000 you can lose weight more quickly while still giving your body exctly what it needs because all your meals are balanced for you. By the way, these ratios and numbers of nutrients I am talking about have been determined by physicians. However, some people that are more active than others or have a very physical job or something of that sort may require a few more calories, which is where we come in as coaches to recognize and make that adjustment. Also, that is just during the weight loss phase, once you get down to the weight you want to be at, we move into the transition phase and start adding more calories and regular meals back in as we move into the maintenace phase to help you keep the weight off for good.

So that's the basics of the diet part but that's just a small part of the overall program. Another big aspect of what we do as health coaches is work with you personally either face to face or over the phone a couple times a week or more to help you stick with your program and help you learn the basics of how the body works to lose weight and how our bodies are actually naturally set up to store fat, and why that is the reason why many people gain weight in the first place and have trouble losing it and more importantly have trouble keeping the weight off after they do lose it. We also help you learn little lifestyle changes that make it easier to stick with a program and live a healthy life. We help you learn that breaking bad habits is not the way to go, and that creating new healthy habits is much easier and a better way to make changes. We teach you that there is a big differance between will power and disapline and how that works. We also work with people on how to set goals based on what they DO want instead of goals based on what they DON'T want. Then once you get down to the weight you want to be at we help you transition off of these meal replacements and back to a normal healthy diet, then we will continue to help you maintain your healthy weight and healthy lifestyle so that your results are permanent and you keep the weight off for good.

I hope this answered some of the concerns some of you have and gives you a good basic overview of the program. If anyone has any questions or other concerns they would like me to address feel free to ask away!)

The problem that I see with this sort of diet is that it is unrealistic. With your plan you aren't being taught how to eat normally whereas weight watchers which I have been doing successfully for 4 months now teaches you healthy eating habits for the rest of your life using real food and also teaches you how you can have a social life and still lose weight. at our meetings we are taught which types of food we should be eating and are encouraged to eat natural foods where possible. The weight watchers ready meals are never pushed on us (but maybe that is just our leader) but it is all about portion control, healthy eating exercise and how to fit it all into a normal life with going out for meals, dinner parties etc which doesn't seem possible on your plan. I'm eating 1200 - 1600 a day and am steadily losing weight.

Actually that is exactly what our program is about. We start you off with what we call a 5 and 1 plan which means you eat 5 meal replacements and one regular meal every day. That regular meal can be either at home or at a restaraunt or dinner party or whatever. Throughout the program we do teach you which foods to eat and which ones to avoid or eat in moderation. The meal replacements are simply a convenient tool we use to help you get your weight down in and easier more convenient way. Once you get your weight to where you want it to be we move into the transition phase by replacing meal replacements with regular meals.

Don't get me wrong, weight watchers is good and people can be successful on it or with a diet like it. The only issue I have with it is that it can be difficult for some people to measure and portion out each meal, I lot of people enjoy the convenience of the sort of "grab and go" type meals that many of the medifast meals are. The other issue I have is that weight watchers focus too much on calories and calories alone. The thing is that it is not the calories that are important for health, it's where the calories come from. There are three different nutrients; protein, fats, and carbs, that's it. The thing is you need to have the correct balance of all 3 in order for your body to function properly. The thing with weight watchers is they allow your calories to come from anything as long a you consume the set amount of calories. The problem with this is like I stated before, if you consume 1,200 calories all from protein, or 1,200 calories all from carbs, or 1,200 calories all from fats, you're going to have 3 totally different effects, none of which are good or healthy. Now I'm not saying everyone that does weight watchers does it that way, some people can measure and portion out all their food and balance their meals and be successful, but for MOST people it's not that easy.

One other concern someone had earlier I forgot to address was the concern about muscle loss. Muscle loss can be a problem with a lot of diets, especially if there is not enough protein. But with the balanced portion controlled meals we make sure there is enough protein in your diet that there is no muscle loss. I actually personally do body fat tests with calipers on all my clients (those that do not live in other states) so that I can moniter that and make sure that they weight they are losing is all fat and no muscle.

On a more personal note concerning both muscle loss and typical dieting, I would like to tell you about myself. As well as being a personal trainer and a nutritionist, I am also a bodybuilder. I actually hold the title of Mr. Mountain States 2008. I can tell you that in my years as a bodybuilder I have become an expert in weighing and measuring food and balancing every meal on my own. What I found though is that that is very difficult to do long term and after a competition I would crack and gain a lot of weight back, it was just extremely difficult and time consuming to keep that type of a diet up long term. After I started using the take shape for life program myself I have been able to get lean for competions much more quickly as well as maintan my weight just over my cmpetion weight, staying as lean is I can be while still being healthy. I have not lost any muscle mass with this program and still maintain my bodybuilder physique.

Does anyone else have any questions or concerns?

Hmm nope, no questions here. You perfectly presented yourself as a shill for the diet plan you make money off. It is not exactly an unslanted view point is it? If people start seeing it as a scam/fraud/unrealistic or unhealthy, then you lose money.

It's it amazing how people just suddenly appear with their first post to defend something they have a financial stake in?

It's like they are psychic.

When people eat the typical 3 meals a day spaced 5-6 hours apart, your body goes into more of a storage mode and holds on to fat.

Proven to be a myth and complete nonsense.

If I needed any more proof that this 'program' is unrealistic, unhealthy and borderline dangerous, you handed it to me on a silver platter. So, 800 - 1000 calories is the perfect range for most people? Give me a break. What a bunch of youknowwhat. 800-1000 calories works only for very, very few people, and even then it's not healthy.

I don't care how much you try to sell your 'diet program' as healthy and nutritionally balanced etc., what it comes down to is that you're trying to sell products (just like any other scam program), and take everybody as 'coaches' (pyramid scheme anybody?) who wants to make a few quick bucks.

The only medically approved 'diet' is healthy eating and exercise. But of course that doesn't make you any money.

I'd suggest that this is indeed spam, linked or not. You're pushing a program and asking people to contact you to talk them into buying your stuff and join your program. Let me tell you something, people on this board are pretty clever, and are getting a lot of proper, helpful and healthy advice. They won't fall for this nonsense.

lol, yea, I can't tell you how often that happens....its hilarious :)

Take shape for life is an excellent program that I recently lost 60 pounds on in two months. I have another 25 pounds to go to reach my goal and I should do that in the next month or so. I am a physician and just became a Health Coach for TSFL. I just went to a meeting in Grand Rapids Michigan and in the room there were several people who had amazing results. 6 people lost over 100 pounds, 2 men and 4 women. One gentleman there lost 202 pounds, AMAZING!! Everyone is different and as such everyone responds differently to different weight loss programs. TSFL worked for me and I have chosen to become a Health Coach. As a physician I want to help as many people as possible.

With that being said, Medi-fast is not crap. It is an FDA inspected company with excellent nutritional products that have been tested through research studies by both John's Hopkins as well as the National Institutes of Health. I bought into this company one year ago and after I seeing my own results I chose to become a Health Coach.

If you have any questions please feel free to contact me.

Tyrone Miller, D.O.

So..you are a chief resident at a hospital and being paid to be a Health Coach for two different weight loss programs.

So how much are they paying you to be a spokesman?

Does this mean that you recommend that people use the meal replacements long term, instead of balancing meals on their own?
Does anyone else have any questions or concerns?
Yes. How much money do you make for recruiting new members? Do they teach you in the seminars to post on internet forums? Do you get extra money for doing it?

Yes, cutting calories and eating balanced meals IS the best way to lose weight, but cutting calories way under what you should give your body is just stupid and unhealthy.

There are people here eating 2000+ calories and LOSING weight, so if your range is so perfect for people why is it that people can eat double what you sell people and still get the same results? You trick people into thinking medifast is the way to go because they lose weight super quick, guise your crap as "healthy and balanced," make money off the poor saps that BELIEVE YOU, and then those people gain all the weight back when they either have lost all the weight or can no longer afford to buy the meals anymore. And then you come here and condone such nonsense? Sir, don't try to fool anyone here... we know many low lives that come here to try to take advantage of others despite what the best interest for their health is.

Ok, a couple things. For those of you that are coming on here and telling me whats healthy and whats right and wrong and all that I'd like to ask you guys a couple questions. First, what are your qualifications to be making such claims? You are talking to myself who is a personal trainer and nutritionist, and another guy who is a physician. What qualifications do you all have that means you know more about weight loss than us? Secondly, as far promoting my "product", Like I said and like the physician said, we are in the business of helping people. I was a personal trainer and nutritionist long before I started working with take shape for life. But I found that take shape for life is the best way to help people lose weight, that is why I chose to use it with my clients. To be honest I don't care what program people use to lose weight as long as they are losing weight and getting healthy, if you want to use what I recommend then great, if you want to use something else and actually do get results from it then that's great too. On that note, as far as me "coming on here and promoting my product" I just found out about this site and came on here to try to help people. I FOUND the already created take shape for life thread, I didn't create it. And I saw that several of you were posting incorrect information about the program so I mearly posted with the true corrected information. Not once did I ever ask anyone to contact me or promote myself in any way, I simply posted the truth about the program. And as far as me recommending something I make money off of, yes I do get paid to be a health coach. If I recommend something that I get paid for that automaticly makes it a false program? Does that mean that anyone who gets paid for their job and recommends it is a scam artist? I don't think so.

Again, I'd like to ask all these people who are talking negatively about this program what are your qualifications to make the claims you are making? Have you actuallty used this program? ((notice none of the people saying negative things say they have ever actually used this program, and everyone on here who has the program loves it)) To those of you who are talking negatively, why do you come onto this thread if you thinks it's all wrong? And if you guys all do knows the right way and best way to lose weight and are so qualified to tell people what to do, what do you guys weigh? What have you done to be so successful?

Like I said, I am here to help and answer questions for those who really are serious about losing weight and want help. I am not here to get in a bord fight with a bunch of people who are not qualified to give anyone any kind of advice and just go from thread to thread bashing anyone who is trying to help because they are not happy with themselves.

Actually, those supporting the program...hmm..seems to be getting PAID FOR IT.

Welcome to a public forum..but here is the interesting thing..The people against it are members of the forum who have established reputations and knows what they talk about.

You..and the good doctor..are brand new to the forum but push yourself as experts. Honestly? We don't know you from jack. Instead of introducing yourself. Instead of becoming part of the community, you both come in on your first posts pushing a weight loss program you get PAID FOR.

BTW: Most of those who come on this site like you two have tends to be selling something and that something is usually a scam.

actually I think the person that started this thread was not a health coach, but simply saying how well the program worked for their friend and there have been several other people that have posted on this thread that are just people who have used the program and comment on how well it works. And as far as people being "established and knowing what they are talking about" you have a BMI of 47 which is dangerously obese, so clearly you're not an expert in weight loss or have any idea of what you are talking about, if you did then why are you dangerously obese?

And as far as my first post being "to push my program" I did not push it at all, I mearly corrected the wrong information that was posted.

That is the problem with public forums like this, it is full of angry overweight people like yourself that can't lose weight so instead of actually doing something about it, you run around on these forums all day and bash down anyone trying to help other people. You claim that you "know what you're talking about" but you're more overweight than most of the people on here, I don't care if you are a moderator or not.

I just want to help people, whether its with take shape for life or not, like said before, I have been a personal trainer and nutritionist for over 7 years so I can help without this program as well. But angry people like you make that impossible. You are ruinning this forum and preventing people who really want help from getting it.
