Tabata - fat loss?

Hey all,

I'm 17 years old, around 6 foot 1, weighing about 11 stone 10 (164 lbs).

Basically, I'm trying to loose weight and tone up while I have the free time to stick to a proper diet and exercise plan. I'm thinking my ideal weight will probably be around 10.5 stone (147 lbs), so that means i'll be looking to lose around a stone and a half in two months. I don't want to bulk up dramatically, this is just a general fitness and cosmetic thing.

Would Tabata sprinting be a good way to achieve this? I know burpees are supposed to be a good exercise for Tabata, but I'd prefer to start with sprinting seeing as its far simpler, until I get the hang of it.

I was thinking of doing Tabata three times a week (Monday, Wednesday, Friday) and some sort of weight training or a good toning DVD if I can find one on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and then 40 minutes of steady cardio on Saturdays for endurance, with Sunday as a rest day.

I'm just not sure if tabata is the best method for weight loss at the moment. On a good diet (about 2000 calories a day), would a 5 minute warm-up, 4 minute tabata and 5 minute cool-down really be the best route to shed fat? I know it's a very challenging workout if you push yourself, but four minutes still seems too good to be true.

I'd appreciate it if anyone who has used tabata or knows about it could let me know if it does actually work and would be a good choice for my situation.

well, if your around 6 feet tall you should be 250 max. I lost allot of weight on the CRACK diet but WOW was it ever expensive. But if you have the money and the time, maybe give it a whirl. I'd lose as much as I felt was necessary to stop me wondering if I'm overweight. (I'm glad you've done it over time because you will keep it off.) If you still believe yourself to be too heavy, you need to lose more. When you feel happy with your weight, you will stop questioning it.
