Switching diet around

I recently went onto a low carb diet (ketogenic diet), but faltered due to how strict this type of diet is, and gained a all the weight back I lost on the diet. It was not a long period of time, so i'm not too upset. That being said, I am going to try a low calorie diet. I still have around 70 pounds to lose, and I am hopeful writing down everything I eat and counting the calories will help me stay on track and guide me on my way trying to reach my weight loss goal by next summer. I was aiming for 1,000 to 1,200 calories a day, eating smaller portions 4-5 times daily...

Is this an appropriate amount of calories ? Or is this too little? Any suggestions?

Thanks

Paul

Ketogenic is a very hard diet and isn't recommended for most people. It can be successful, but is one of those diets where cheating even a little will kill the diet completely.

I wouldn't recommend starting at 1200. Slowly work your way down. To figure out what you could do, enter your details here: http://www.freedieting.com/tools/calorie_calculator.htm. If you enter anything other than "basal metabolic rate" in the "exercise level", it will give you the calories that you need to lose weight.
