Swimming

Just wondering if we could have a subforum (or whatever they're called) for Swimming, or else incorporate it into Running and Cycling?

We need a surf lifesaving subforum. But I might be the only one who hangs out there :(

I'd read the posts, but I can't really contribute anything other than anecdotal prose ;)

Regular lifeguards aren't nearly as equipped physically or mentally to do surf lifesaving.

I used to be a lifeguard but only at indoor and outdoor pools. That's so lame. All we had to do was write a test (which was easy), swim a mile in under 25 minutes, swim with a 180 pound dummy for 2 lengths and then pull it out of the water, and tread water for 10 minutes. Oh yeah, and go into the deep end to retrieve a 10 pound brick. Woo-hoo. Believe it or not, it's WAY easier to become a lifeguard nowadays.

I know nothing about the surf. I'm useless in it. I can swim in a pool, but put me in the ocean, and I freak. I don't handle waves well. I actually have a fear of the water. That's why I became a lifeguard. I thought I'd conquered it, but then I tried surfing in the ocean in Australia and ended up getting pulled out by the lifeguards. I do remember puking up a lot of water, and then when I looked up, I saw three of the most gorgeous men on the planet. I thought I'd died and gone to heaven :D

I did get a date out of my failed drowning attempt and some free surfing lessons, though

EDIT: That was so completely off topic I think I need to be shot in the head for posting this.

Anything swimming oriented would be a good idea because it seems that there are more members asking questions about swimming. It would be nice to have those threads all in one place.

And while we're at it, why don't I hijack this thread and ask for a section that deals with rowing (either on the ergo and/or on the water), too?

I don't know if there are enough questions about rowing and swimming for them to get their own subforums. It sucks to have subforums with little activity that no one checks. The problem is, people might post questions about swimming in the swimming forum, but since the swimming forum doesn't get a lot of traffic, not a lot of people will see it.

But I'll leave it for the admins to decide.

Don't just make a plain sub for swimming make it like Outdoor activities or water sports...something along the lines of that...otherwise then it just limits it to people who are asking about swimming.

Cheers

Theres no size wave that can phase me these days. The surf is second nature to me. They call me the baracuda haha

:yelrotflmao: I enjoyed your *off topic* anecdote, I_love_muscle! You are correct, outdoor swimming in the beach & swimming laps indoors are two different things. Thankfully, I learned how to swim at the beach so have no fear of it, just a healthy respect.

I think swimming as a sport & swimming laps for exercise are also two different things, however.
