Swimming

I think it depends on which stroke the individual is more comfortable with. I do 50 yard relaxed breast stroke followed by 50 yard fast crawl(26 seconds). 15 reps and I am done.

Its much better for me than swimming constantly at a steady pace though I never could figure out how many calories this routine burns for me.
 
I would assume it would be about as much as running for the same amount of time.

So, relaxed for like 50 sec then fast for about 30?
