Sweet cravings are back

I just did a very successful programme of exercise and diet. Lost about 20 lbs and 5 inches on my waist. The key to my diet was to keep off Sugars/ sweets completely, because they add so much calories so easily...Just one sweetmeat and all your gain [loss] from the diet for the day has gone out of the window.

Lately I have been cheating. My resolve and will has started to thin after so many months and I have started to eat sweets after the evening meal. I try to do extra exercise the next morning, but there is only so much time and I cannot afford to spend any more time on exercise. The craving starts in the evenings only...all day long I am able to stay away as my mind is occupied with work. In the evenings, I am relaxed and since I love sweets, I tend to connect, feeling comfortable with eating sweets.

Thinking of not buying sweets at all...so no chocolates, icecream, pastries, etc at home...but that is not being fair to my family, just because I am losing my resolve.

Just wanted to get this out of my system.

Nothing wrong with having chocolate. Substitute. Instead of having 100g carbs from rice etc, have only 75g and 25g carbs worth of chocolate. If you keep fighting cravings, it will keep coming back stronger and stronger. Satisfy it, then get back on track.

sounds good...i like the 'satisfy and get back' part...really logical

thanks ...makes me feel less guilty and will action this one pragmatically

Hyung Jun...have to confess..I have been 'satisfying' myself a bit too much lately. Trying to get back to another round of low carb session...but finding it quite difficult

Try satisfying your sweet tooth with yogurt instead. Works for me. Or a fruit sorbet! Buy some frozen fruit and throw it in the blender with some REAL fruit juice, or even skim milk works!

Try to pick something low in calories but still makes your cravings go away.

thanks Nick...but I eat tons of fruit all day anyways. The craving comes after dinner with the family and my son loves sweets [he is not fat though :blush5:] and thus they are always there at home

The good news is: he is getting braces done in two weeks time. So no chocolates/ toffees/ sweets for the next two years ...ha ha ha [wicked laugh]

What works well for me is to have a staggered approach. First I try to satisfied my sugar craving with home made sweet fruit yogurt (I used plain yogurt, Steven, and fresh berries). If that not work (and it works 90% of the time), I plan a cheat day where I eat myself silly to the point of being sick of it for a long while.

Everyone is different, but that works for me.

If you are having sugar cravings, either you have Candida and or you are not getting enough protein in your diet. Also, are you drinking enough water?

chris, I wouldn't tell people they have a medical issue...thats for their doctor to decide. I think having a sweet tooth is common for millions of people...I know I have it too...but no fungus here ;)

I agree with Korrie that Chris cannot say that there is a medical issue.

Having said that - I know someone who struggled with her mad sugar craving for ages - then someone on a forum suggested that it might be the candida thing. She checked the internet and found that she had a number of symptoms of it. She raised the subject with her doctor and the doctor agreed that it was probably the case and put her straight onto a diet.

Whether it is down to a placebo effect - or whether it identified an actual issue I couldnt say - but she has started losing weight again on her new diet

I am currently studying Holistic Nutrition and it turns out that a great deal of people have candida or blood sugar intolerances. The only person that can tell you for sure is your doctor. You can also look online for a Hypoglycemia checklist of symptoms. Many times, when we crave sugar, it can be attributed to a blood sugar imbalance. I am not sure how frequently you are eating, but if you break up your meals into smaller sizes and eat every 2.5-3 hours, that may also help you out. Please keep us posted!

I have a sweet tooth too! I could never resist. It would start with one and then end up eating everything. I stopped having any thing sweet (even fruit) for 2 weeks and now the craving has gone. I can walk past chocolate and cake and say no. I dont know how long it will last. Once in a while I have some weightwatchers jelly which I think is no calorie. I cant believe I havent had sugar or cakes/chocolates for 6 weeks now

Ouch

Sarcasm here is so unnecessary. Not everyone knows everything related to health and nutrition. We are all here to help each other. Sarcasm from an unhappy person - that's not new information either...

"Many times, when we crave sugar, it can be attributed to a blood sugar imbalance.", well that's new information.
