Sunny's Diary

Well, let's see...
I have been overweight for the majority of my life. After my second child, I started gaining weight very rapidly with no real knowledge of why. It came with other problems too, like muscle weakness, fibromyalgia like pain, etc.

It took over 4 years to finally get somewhat of a diagnosis. I have low-thyroid and high insulin. Both contributing factors to the excessive quick weight gain.

With meds, my thyroid problems seem to be under control. My insulin problems are not. It appears that I am VERY insulin resistant.
I have normal blood sugar and am not a diabetic, but have some kind of problem metabalizing food. If my insulin remains high, I was told that eventually my pancrease will over work itself producing insulin, to try to metabalize the food, and burst...and I will become a diabetic.

They have told me that the lower my weight gets, the more we will be able to manage my insulin level. I don't quite understand how...I'm taking about the most medication they can give me right now.

So anyway, like many of us, I'm sure, I have been on various programs off and on a lot of my life.

Currently I am using a combo of sorts... I started using a program that promoted foods that have low glucose index (sp?).
It was the first thing I've tried where I've seen any real lose since my problems started, so I was quite overjoyed.
Now I'm taking a little of that knowledge and using a program I have used in the past with success, and one I really like... The T-Factor. Not a real popular program...but I like it.

Blessings,

Sunny

Good luck with your weight loss project.

I know nothing of the program that you mention. Are you planning on using exercise in order to aid your weight loss. I find walking is very effective in helping my weight loss project.

Take care
Best wishes

You sound really committed to making this work. That will be the most vital factor in succeeding. 16 pounds is a nice loss already. :) When did you start losing weight?

Welcome to the forum and congratulations on starting a diary here.

Hi Margaret,

Yes, I do most of my exercise during the summer though, as we have a small house, and my equipment is in the garage. Too cold once the snow starts fallling.

The T-Factor basically deals with staying between 20-40 fat grams a day for women, and 30-60 for men.
Of course they suggest you eat healthier carbs and all that too.

Blessings,
Sunny

Felici,

Hi! Thanks so much!

I started when I tried out the 5 factor diet, and was eating mostly protien bars and high fiber cereal a lot. The very end of August, I believe.

Hi Sunny

I live in a small house too. I dont have any exercise equipment (unless you count a pedometer which I wear all the time). I just set aside part of the day to go out to walk near where I live. It is great exercise and free too. You dont have to pay a gym or anything.

I used to be put off by people that say that walking is no good for weight loss and that you have to run or jog - which I knew would kill me. I am more than happy with my results from walking so suspect that this idea may be relevant for the thinner people that may only have 10 or 20 pounds to lose - but does not seem to be at all relevant for the larger individual.

Every day I make a note of my stepcount and mileage and put them into a spreadsheet so I challenge myself to do a similar amount again the next day. It really does all seem to add up. I am convinced that it makes a huge difference to the effectiveness of my weight loss project.

I find it very useful to keep all the info associated with my weight loss project in a spreadsheet. That way I can look back through the months for patterns. In a long project it is amazing how easy it is to have difficulty remembering what you were doing when.

Take care
Best wishes

Hi Sunny, welcome to WLF :).

Many studies have shown that low fat diets dont work so well and dont make you feel very good. So I was wondering how're you doing on this plan and I was just curious what is the thinking behind the t-factor diet? I just read a book which focused heavily on insulin resistance and I believe I was having very bad insulin problems myself, the book just recommends limiting yourself to 3 meals a day (nice filling ones) and a few other habits and I swear, I feel amazing. I can tell my blood sugar (which always felt so out of wack but would come back normal on tests) is totally stable and I can go around 5 hours without eating or hunger where as before I would be starving practically right after I ate. If I only knew it would be this easy to fix things I would've tried it a long time ago. It also cures binging, really cuts the appetite.
