Sugar free for me Club

Hi all!

Well, going through my usual diaries this morning, I noticed how at least 3 of us have similar goals in cutting down/ eliminating sugar in our diets. Some are going the whole hog and not even eating simple carbohydrates (refined/white). I myself am cutting out sugar granules. I usually have 2 sugars in tea and 3 sugars on my hot cereal. I also have the odd sweets (candy) and lately I've been having too much!

My goal is to eat less/ no sugar in order to control my cravings for sugar that are created by eating it often.

Anyone else in? Today's my DAY 1 by the way.

Ankebuzz,

I'm in. I have been without sugar 142 days now. Not sugars in foods like fruit, rice, ketchup, etc.

Im in! Great idea for setting this up as I was already feeling tempted oh dear!
Im trying to cut back on sugars like cookies, chocolate etc and eat more fruit instead. My problem is that when I eat one treat I tend to have another, then another an so on.
Good luck I'm sure we can do this :)

Day One - No sugar :D

Ok, Day 1 again...

I realised I need to be a bit more flexible for this to work for me. I have decided to still have sugar, but in a small dose once a week, and one bigger dose once a month. Therefore, I will still do my 30 days, just 5 days will have treats.

Another thing is availability of food - I stopped by the fruit and veg wholesaler to try pick up something healthy instead of a pastry at the gas station. I got myself some grapes, and I took the only seed/nut bar type option they had... tasting it just now, it was divine, and I may be mistaken (there were no ingredients on the packaging) but I think I felt the sugar and butter melt blissfully on my tongue! Ah, sweet granola-y goodness!

Anyway, barring the abovementioned cases, I will not be part-taking in sugar consuming activities for the next 30 days :)

DAY 1 - GO!!!

Today I had my first mini treat for the week... Only one treat a week, hehe! It was a granola nut/seed bar, hmmmm. So technically I'd like to make my next treat round the same time next week... Monday... great day for sweets!!!

Hi - Ankebuzz, this thread is a superb idea. I have been gradually decreasing my sugar intake since the end of April and want to give it a kick in the nuts for good. I've gone from eating pretty much only chocolate every day with a few health treats thrown in, to nil. Today was my first actual day of no sugar at all and I feel good so far. I'm convinced that my life without sugar will be a million times better than I've ever experienced in my addicted past.

Good luck and strength to everyone on this sweet sweet challenge!

Woo another member, Welcome! :)

I thought this would be alot of harder than it is, I think most of its in your mind.

How you been doing Ankebuzz?

Hey! Sounds like a good idea to me, too :)

@Kirsty: I have the same problem. Once I've started I cannot stop myself. It's a lot easier for me to just eliminate sweets and chocolate from my diet.

@troutman: wow, my respects. 142 days is a lot! You're my role model from now on :D

I'll report regularly on how it is going on! Wish you luck and motivation!

Hi everyone,

I'm on a program right now that doesn't allow any sugar at all (though I can have sugar substitutes). I've been sugar free for... a bit over 3 weeks. It's been really good! No more energy swings/crashes :). I can't say I miss sugar all that much... I miss fresh baked bread though

I find that I get so bloated when I eat a lot of refined sugars... so I'm going to make an effort to cut out a lot of refined sugars, like cookies, cake, and other dessert items, as well as simple carbs.... However, I don't think that going the completely sugar-free way is an option for me, as a lot of things that I use, such as ketchup, have sugar.
I'm going to hop on board this thread!

I'm in

I tried this before with great success unfortuately eater came and I went back into my old habits.

I need to get off sugar again as I am a adict and it controls my life

Any help and support would be great as I find friends and family don't understand what I am doing and are very unsuportive.

I wouldn't have been able to do it without jello light and diet sodas. I know artificial sweeteners aren't exactly healthy.... but on the other hand, they keep me sane :p... but seeing as the rest of my diet consists of chicken/fish, tons of veggies, and fruits, maybe it balances out somehow (haha... I wish....)

Just checking in; I fell off the wagon a couple of times with chocolate. Each time, I ate it for a day or 2 and put on some weight ... which it took me 2 WEEKS to lose, each time. Sheesh!

Nekoki: Sorry to hear your loved ones aren't supporting you; it can be hard to understand when others can eat sugar/treats no problem, they might see us as almost antisocial for not joining in! :leaving: You can come on this site and get support anytime, there will always be someone who understands and can relate! :)

Kirsty: How are you doing? I'm going to use you for my inspiration, I hope you don't mind. I really need a kick in the pants.

troutman, Skye & jinna: How are you guys doing?

Aww thats so sweet of course I don't mind :D
I allowed myself sugar while I was on holiday but am back on track at the moment. I think we all need to allow ourselves treats, its all about reducing it. Even if you have one small treat a day if its still less than what you would of have before its an achievement.
But honestly the thought of not having sugar is a lot worse than the reality - you stop craving after a while!

Hi,

Since Jan 26TH. I have had sugar 4 days, all of the days in July. All special occasions. I was concerned that I might to crazy with sugar once I had some. But I have done great, no problems, no cravings. The next time I will have sugar will be in Aug. when we are on vacation. Its nice to be able to have sugar, with out going crazy with it.

Hiya,

Well, the last time I had any (refined) sugar was.... in June. I'm doing well.... my problem is that I joined this program (which I recently quit) which is very low in calories (I didn't realize how low until I entered my foods into Sparkpeople's food diary) so now I have to figure out a healthy way to increase my caloric intake... minus the sugars of course ;)

Hi everyone! New to this board and such. I've been without refined sugar and flour (no processed foods either) for 107 days now. I'm loving how I feel not eating all of that stuff. I have seen a dramatic decrease in all of the aches and pains too! On top of that I have stayed away from caffeine and for the most part artificial sweeteners too. I have always had a problem with sweets and cannot eat just one of anything!! So I am for the time being abstaining! I of course eat ketchup (occasionally), white rice and fruit too. But definitely stay away from products with high fructose corn syrup in them.

I'm glad that I found this site! I've been reading a ton of different stuff, but will post more later.
