Sucking it up- no excuses

I figured I should start a diary- I just found this forum

About me:
28 yr old mom of 3, lost 80 pounds after youngest was born- shes going to be 6 next month. Got divorced, met bf 4 yrs ago, gained back 25. Slowly but surely have added another 25 on top of that over the past 3 years.
Currently I am 5'5" weighing 179 lbs. My goal is 130-135. When I lost the weight before I got down to 125lbs, but that isn't maintainable for me. I hovered around 135 for over a year. I'd be happy with that, but even happier if I could hit 130 and maintain.

I have tried counting cals- no results, gave up after 2 months. Have tried weight watchers (still doing it)- no results. The only way I lose weight is through diet and exercise combined- which is how I did it the first time. So I have the diet under control and am adding in exercise now. 2 weeks ago started with step aerobics at home for 20-30 minutes 3x per week. I've actually gained 2 lbs. I read that when you start exercising in the beginning you will see a small weight increase due to muscles swelling and retaining water. Don't know if that is true or not, but whatever. I'm doing everything right, this time I need to just be patient, give it more time and not give up. I'm upping the cardio to 5x per week, 1 hour per session. Thats what I did and lost weight before.

Yesterday I went to the gym and did 5 min walking at 4.0 mph, then 2 min run at 6.0 mph, for a total of 40 mins, then finished the hour with walking at intervals between 3.5 and 4.5 mph. I am SORE today- especially my butt and saddlebag area- still not clear if I should workout today being this sore, but am going to head to the gym in a min for an hour long moderate walk- planning on 3.5 mph, but we'll see how it feels.

Hopefully the soreness indicates shrinking!!!

I think the biggest problem with my diet is I don't eat breakfast, and rarely eat until 3pm. (like now- its nearly 2pm, I haven't eaten. I'm just not hungry) Its going to be a massive challenge to being spreading my meals more evenly through out the day, but first I want to see if I get results eating this way- which I'm comfortable with- still staying with in my points range through weightwatchers, but now adding more exercise in. We shall see. If I don't see results in the next 2 weeks, then I'll work on spreading the meals through out the day.

It sounds like your going in the right direction in terms of exercise, but make sure you eat breakfast. Your metabolism is like a fire, and breakfast is like wood. Throw some wood in and get the fire going. Its pretty simple to spread your meals out, it just takes time to get used to. I guarantee though if you do so and keep on exercising, you will see results.

I know you are right. Starting tomorrow I am eating breakfast. Even if its just a piece of fruit and some yogurt.

I just got back from the gym- its nearly 4 pm and I'm eating my first meal of the day- tuna with 1 T light mayo on whole wheat red. cal bread with cut up veggies- carrots, celery, tomatoes, and red bell pepper and 1 T ff ranch.

The gym went better than expected- I got my full hour in- walked for 35 min at 3.5mph with varied incline, then jogged at 5.0 mph for 15 mins, then walked again at 3.5 mph for the last 10 mins. It didn't hurt at all while I was doing it- actually that was the only time today my butt and legs haven't hurt. They are worse now that I have stopped though- I feel super sore and stiff. Hurts especially going up and down stairs. Tomorrow is going to be a rest day- Mondays and Wednesdays are my scheduled rest days because my schedule is the busiest those days with school, and even busier tomorrow from some extra stuff I have to do.

The scale/my body does crazy things. I'm glad this happened tonight, as I feel like I can calm the hell down about this working/not working, the numbers on the scale etc.

After I worked out I weighed myself, I was at 181.7. :svengo:

Drank about a liter of water, ate, showered, hung around etc

3 hours later I'm down to 179.2

I gained 2 lbs last week, weight kept fluctuating up and then back down to around 179.8... I was really fairly annoyed about it. Now I'm starting to think my body is just trying to adjust to starting to exercise. Anyway, even though its ridiculous- seeing the numbers go all nuts in a matter of 3 hours and then settle lower than I've seen it all week...somehow that has relaxed me. The scale WILL go down.. I'm doing things right.... PHEW!

today was a shit day, mostly from lack of planning. The only good news is I was a pound less than yesterday.... WOOT!

Started off well enough- non fat latte, 1.5 tsp. sugar.

early lunch at 1045:
chicken breast with 1 T light mayo on red. cal whole wheat bread, cut up red bell peppers

at school- small skim mocha (and here we begin the downhill slide)

Got home from school, was working on my car, suddenly its 6pm, I have to pick up the kids, like 15 mins ago, feed them (and myself) something and take them to math night at their school which begins at 630 and ended at 8pm. So I ended up getting fast food mexican- I ate a steak and rice burrito, potato oles (which are like tater tots.. because I figure, hell, if I'm gonna do it, may as well do it all the way and enjoy it since I avoid fast food like the plague 99% of the time) and a small soda.:ack2:

Oh well.. fuck it. Tomorrows a new day... and gym day again. Hopefully I continue to see the scale move in the right direction considering todays indiscretion.

I was 178.5 yesterday, and this am 178.4. Apparantley I didn't screw anything up too much with my fast food meal.

Today is a gym day- planning on an hour on the treadmill.... walk/run intervals.

Planning dinner tonight- chicken and veggies. Class today is at noon, I'm going to take cut up veggies with me to snack on, and have a salad before I go.

Well, on Wednesday after clincials my left foot was really hurting. I tried to workout on Thursday, but made it only 20 minutes until the pain was too much to continue. I was pretty pissed because everything else felt great- I felt stronger, less out of breath, but this damned foot was killing me. On Friday I came down with an upper respiratory infection, so I've basically been resting since Thursday. I think I have tendonitis in my foot. Its feeling better today, so once I start getting better from this respiratory infection I'll head back to the gym. Maybe I tried to do too much too fast. I'll try to work into it- and vary it- I want an hour of cardio 5 days a week, so maybe I'll do 20 mins on a bike, 20 on an elliptical, and 20 on the treadmill. I prefer treadmill workouts to anything else, but I'm thinking to prevent injury I need to change it up and work up to longer amounts of time doing any one activity.

I lost a half pound anyway this week, and I'm getting ready to start my period (any day now) which always makes me retain water, so I suspect I'm really down a pound or two.

Another thing I was thinking about- does anyone watch the travel channel? I catch most episodes of Samantha Brown's show. Just watched one of her in Latin America- I always wonder what she does to stay in such great shape... She and I share similar body types, heavier on the bottom, and she is my model of what I'd love my body to look like at my final goal.

sorri to hear about the foot...hope it gets better soon.

with the period coming soon, you have done great with the loss :hurray:

keep it up!

So I'm still sick- really bad respiratory infection... no gym for me this week. Somehow I've still managed to lose a pound. I'm really ready to get better and head back to the gym. Funny, this time around (this attempt to lose weight) my attitude is all different- I've come to an acceptance that I am a person who will fight my weight for the rest of my life. I won't have the body I want unless I work hard for it, and I've accepted that and am at a place where I am ready to put in the work. I actually want to go to the gym and have the motivation to do it, but now I can't because I'm sick. Its frustrating.

My foot is better, at least. Maybe next week I'll be able to get back to my routine.

hey illness is horrible but just concentrate on getting better and you will be back to your routine soon. its horrible to have glitches in the middle though.

hope you feel better soon
