Success

What sets those apart who reach great heights, from the average? Great heights in fitness, weight loss, business, etc.

Great heights and success are obviously very relative to individual. What a great success is for me may very well be a huge disappointment for you. However, I believe anyone who reaches their personal goals are that much closer to happiness......

Very true!

I also used to believe that a goal was a *fixed* place. Whether in time, event or even number - the nice thing about this has been learning that personal goals can and will change. They evolve and that's a good thing :)

Just answer the question woman.

:p

P.S. I agree with you

Great posts from the both of you. I would give rep but the scale says I will have to find others to love on first.

Success is so an every person thing. I believe I succeed because of the support and love I have from those around me. If I didn't have that, I wouldn't have anything.

Everyday you should succed in something and acknowledge that success.
Where you nice to someone for no reason today? That was a success.
Did you do something for yourself that made you feel better and strong? That was a success.
Did you keep a promise to yourself of a new day and hope for the future, that is one of the best moments of success you can have, and you can have that everyday!

Nice post Leigh.

I know someone is going to ask for my answer, and I like to keep things simple.

What does it take to be successful?

IMO

Relentless desire. The ability to set your sites on something, and no matter how many setbacks arise, still persevere and move forward.

I think it has a lot to do with state of mind, more-so than individual personality. Meaning, I think it is a mindset that pretty much anyone can create.

What does it take to be able to do this?

Very simply.

Belief.

Now see, I didn't even realize there was a question in your first post.

In terms of weightloss, I had never "tried" to lose weight. I've always been about 30 pounds over weight and over the years, I added to it. I never yo-yo dieted. I just woke up one day and said "This is it - I'm not going to be fat anymore" and the weight just started coming off.

So for me, I think it's determination - it isn't a matter of "trying to succeed" it's in doing it.

I don't feel like I have succeeded yet - but I know I will.

And when I get to the goals I've set for myself, I'll make new ones, and I'll reach those.

Like Leigh said - it's finding those successes every day - and like you Steve, the belief that we WILL accomplish them :)

Right, but like you said, you are working toward something. That something will evolve of course. But again, by my definition of success.... you are working toward an ultimate success. You are successful now, b/c you are actively getting closer. But like I said before, I think success is part of the equation, no matter how you define it.

Ahh...now I see the difference, you see it as successful because someone is actively working towards their goals - whereas in my definition, I'm not successful because I haven't reached the specific goal yet.

Hmmm...

So my idea of success is still destination driven and yours is journey oriented.

I'll need to rethink this some more :)

I suppose everyone has a different definition of success but being nice to someone for no reason isn't a success it's being human... Random acts of kindness are something I do every day... maybe for purely selfish reasons because it makes me feel good but doesn't make me a success... though i do encourage unconditional niceness in people...

Success for me? it's a tough call - lately it's ending the day without havng any - what the hell did you do that for moments - the non-entertaining ones anyhow.. it's when i can say in themorning - i want to do this this this and this and at days end - i can say i've done all that... laately, success has been finding the humor i those what the hell moments and choosing to laugh..

Anxiously waiting for a destination without much care for the journey is like living to die, IMO.

Slightly drastic, but the truth.

You need to be in love with the steps you take. This way, if the destination doesn't show up when it's supposed to, devastation and frustration doesn't follow.

Hence, the title of my journal.

Personally, I have set goals for myself that had to be pushed back years. I had 3 major surgeries from injury, all destroying my progress and hopes of reaching my physique goals on time. Of course I was bummed, but I am so in love with the process that I was able to pick myself up and find positives in the situation and if I didn't enjoy the journey, I probably would have given up on the pursuit.

Kind of straying from the original post, but this is all good.

You too woman!

Answer the question.

Oh, I don't disagree with you - I was looking at the semantics of my above definition and seeing that my definition implied that I wasn't successful because I wasn't at the destination. I can see where that is wrong. Destinations change, evolve, and there was a time when I wasn't OK with that. However, now I can appreciate it.

Yes, the journey is important - and it's one I've enjoyed far more then I ever thought I would actually.

[QUOTEWhat sets those apart who reach great heights, from the average? [/QUOTE]

1. Desire
2. Clear objective
3. Mission statement that makes sense to them
4. readiness to get to where they want to go (which is the journal entry that ill finish once i get the whining out of my system)
5. Building on the readiness -belief in themself and knowing their objective is the right one for them

Ive read the 7 habits of highly effective people entirely too often- that mission statement is really important :)
