Success is tangible...

Hello all,
I started my weight loss journey two weeks before the start of the new year. I wanted to ease myself into my new lifestyle instead of just jumping into it and failing like many times before. My strategy is simple and effective. So far I have gone from being 438 pounds to today's weight of 423 pounds. I use an app for IPhone called lose it. It gives me the amount of calories I need based on my BMR and all you have to do is track what you eat. I recommend this app, their database of food is extensive.

I get questions a lot from people asking me how much I want to weigh when I'm done. The answer I often give is, "I don't know" and "I'm not on a diet, I am changing the way I eat forever." I have been very large my entire life, I don't know what my "goal weight" is. When I feel good I will maintain that weight. After losing the first 15 pounds, I can feel myself getting smaller. It's not much when you weigh as much as I do, but every journey starts with a single step. My first step is tangible and it feels good.

I work as a captain on ships in the Gulf of Mexico. I have six weeks left before I go home. My short term goal is to be 400 or under by that time. I want my wife to see the difference in my body. I didn't start my lifestyle change for her though, I am doing it for me. I want to be active and able to do physical activities without hurting myself. Success is tangible, we all have the will to succeed!!! Thanks for reading. Good luck to everyone!!!

Hi Bob! :waving:

Congratulations on the weight loss! You are smart to realize that changing the way that we eat forever instead of being on a diet is what will help us get the weight off and keep it off! Thanks for the app recommendation, I have the worst time figuring out how many calories are in something!

Hi Bob!

Good job on the current weight loss, and I hope you meet your goals. Thanks for the app idea. I am definitely going to download it and try it out.

Welcome Bob!
Congrats on the weight loss so far and the great attitude as well!

I'm sure looking better for your wife is A reason for you wanting to lose the weight, I know looking better for my fiance is one of my reasons. But I'm also glad to hear it is not the one and only. We must do this for ourselves, not for those around us, or else it will never work and never stick.

I think hitting 400 in 6wks is definitely doable and wish you good luck :) Glad you are already noticing a difference as I'm sure this helps you stay motivated to keep going.

Your job sounds awesome! Do you live on the ship? Does that mean you have a ship cook that does all the food? Good luck and well done on your loss so far!

Thanks for the kind words. It's great when you find a woman who accepts you for who you are no matter what you look like. I am excited for the new feeling of life that come with losing weight. Dropping pounds is positive in every aspect of life and I couldn't be happier. I hope you reach all of your goals and stay motivated as well!!!

I do love my job. Yes I stay on the ship for many weeks at a time. We do have a cook that prepares meals for us. But, he also prepares a bunch of stuff that's not so healthy. Being the captain has its perks though, I often ask him to make me healthy side dishes. He is really good at it too.

That's huge. Good for you, man. Doing things for other people is a nice gesture, but when it comes to changing your own life, doing things for other people can lead to disaster. However, doing it for yourself will ALWAYS lead you down a better road.

You seem to be on that better road by getting yourself off to a good start. Keep it up, Bob. Before you know it, you won't be Big Bob anymore...just Normal Size Bob. HAHAHA, that'd be a terrible screen name...Normal Size Bob. Anyway, good luck, Bob.
