Stunting Growth

I did do my homework on this subject a little bit in the search engine and found that most people say that it WON'T stunt your growth if you weight lift. I asked a few of my brothers 18-20 y/o friends about it and they said that you can't and one said that you only can if your my age and trying to lift like an olympic guy does. I was wondering why so many people believe that it will stunt your growth? Because alot of people that are in their mid-late 20's have told me that it will stunt your growth if you start too early.

I'm 15 and am about 5'5 or so, haven't hit my growth spurt yet (at least I don't think/hope so). But that is my main worry about lifting too much is that I will stunt my growth a little because I didn't hit my growth spurt yet. If I can get as many people that know about this tell me and convice me, then I will believe it, I guess I'm looking as to why people so often tell me that it can. I'm a little on edge because I hate being short and wish to hit my growth spurt running full max so I can be like 6'1 or so, because I have short parents (mom-5'2...dad-5'7/8 or so). :)

We've gone thru this a gabagillion times... search = your friend.

Lifting CAN damage growth plates, which would cause you to stop growing. But then again, so can walking. So it depends how you look at it.

I know, and I did look at the search engine, I even stated that I did...

I'm looking for a straight-on answer...is it good or bad to lift without hitting a growth spurt yet???

Don't tell me that mreik lol that's open-ended :p, should I or should I not lift and build muscle if I haven't hit my growth spurt yet?!? you guys are the more-knowledgeable on this subject-I'm just starting out...

I know what you said about 2 kinds of growth - biological and chronological.... I can grow facial hair, and I do have a deep voice - since about 7th grade (I'm going into 10th). Only problem is my height - 5'5 and I haven't hit my growth spurt yet.

It's up to you, no one can tell you it WON'T stunt your growth because they'd be lying. But at the same time you can damage a growth plate simply playing a sport... If you're smart about lifting and don't go above your 6rm that should help your odds, again it's your decision.

yeh. i'll probably suggest that you lighten up your training, dont go too hardcore. since ur still young and all. u want the most growth for ur age =]

&

i hope ur drinking alot of calcium products heh

straight answer? alright lift weights.. i lift like crazy but i lift SMART.. make sure you know alot before you start doing anything.. and make sure ur diet is good..

I'm 15, and I'm working out like crazy right now. The funny thing is - when I started, I started getting a lot taller. In the past 2 months I've gotten a few inches taller.

Drink lots of milk, and take good multivitamines. You should be alright.

It is true that it can, but it depends on your body.
