study on HIIT vs LIT

From the conclusion: "In conclusion, these results reinforce the notion that for a given level of energy expenditure, vigorous exercise favors negative energy and lipid balance to a greater extent than exercise of low to moderate intensity. Moreover, the metabolic adaptations taking place in the skeletal muscle in response to the HIIT program appear to favor the process of lipid oxidation."

In other words, HIIT is superior to low to moderate intensity cardio if your end result is a greater fat burning potential.

Great read, give good backing to the fact that HIIT is better to holding on to muscle as well as increased fat reduction.

*edit..dammit 2 I's not to T's, why do keep doing that!

Yes, but there is a need for endurance (longer cardio sessions) training as well. Cardio should be the tool to help aid in fat loss, but also to THE tool to strengthen your most important muscle- your heart.

All too often cardio is thought of as a fat burning exercise. Well yes, but for each study that proves one thing- there is a study that says the exact opposite. This study is rather small. A total of less than 30 people.

It does suggest what the popular thinking is right now (HIIT burns more calories per unit of time that LI). Good read. Just keep in mind the other benefits of cardio- particularly low intensity (LI).

Each of my clients follow tip #4 of the 5 tips to fat loss- 4) Cardio. This should be done at different intensity levels and different session lengths. Consider doing a low intensity/long session, a high intensity/short session and a few medium intensity/medium length sessions.
